Clermont County Auditor Arnold Sumpf has ordered a second bookkeeping machine to write checks. On Thursday county commissioners authorized the auditor and treasurer Byron Ross to process the Head Start and Neighborhood Youth Corps summer in school programs payroll.
Union Township trustees approved payments totaling 29395.99 for June from the fire department cemetery roads general and fire funds as part of 1967 contracts and opened bids on a roller and paver. Jimmie Bill Warden, New Richmond businessman, suffered a heart attack June 17 and is hospitalized with improved condition. A benefit dance for John Bayer’s family is set for July 15 at Clermont County VFW Post 3954 with The Crowns performing. Bayer was council commander-elect who would have taken office July 3.
Clermont Northeastern Republican Club reports 20 new members in the current drive led by membership chairman William A. Stivers. The club is split into two teams, Odds led by Elvira Werner and Evens led by Kay Gavin, with a patriotic play planned by the losing team. Evens lead 16 to 4 as of now.
The county fair grounds will get a 105 by 48 foot pole barn to replace the storm blown structure. George Mull and Carl Ansteatt discussed the project with county commissioners. Tom Crain of London bid $5687 for the barn, pens, and stalls totaling $6500, with completion before the Aug 15 19 fair.
Four Williamsburg High School musicians Rodney Anstaett Cheryl Deel Jerry Hutchinson and Ronald Campbell represent southwestern Ohio at the 21st Annual Music Clinic Workshop at Ohio University Athens They take roles in Varsity Band Woodwind Choir Vocal Chorus and Honor Band with guidance from John McCormick Williamsburg music director. Afton Baptist Church hosts a revival led by Rev A V Stanley while Tay lor Methodist Youth Fellowship plans a bake sale and white elephant sale at courthouse square on Saturday July 8 to fund summer camping.
Clermont County failed to qualify for a $100000 state airport grant last Thursday because the offered site was not county owned. Rep. William Massey arranged meetings with state officials. the application was approved by the State Division of Aviation but rejected by Attorney General William Saxbe's office since the site is under option. Massey said a title transfer could still win the grant. Six counties race for remaining grants. Friday’s deadline passed and funds carry over to the next biennium for the first two qualifying counties.
St Thomas More Church in Withamsville hosts a weekend festival on school grounds with booths rides and refreshments under a tent. Sunday features roast beef and chicken dinners 12:30 to 7 p.m. Prize lineup includes a 23 inch color TV radios bicycles and hourly awards. committee chaired by Father Gerard Evers with assistants Matt Maringer Joe Link Shirley Maringer and Marjorie Hutchinson.
Roger Hosler of Bethel Tate High School earned All American honors as part of Ohio University's 440 yard relay team. The squad won Mid American Conference and Central Collegiate Conference titles, placed fourth at the NCAA Championships in Provo Utah, and posted a 40.7 relay time. Hosler also ran 440 yard dash second at MAC meet and 220 yard dash fifth, with a 48.0 best in 440 and 21.4 in 220.
Bethel receives a 16000 advance from the Department of Housing and Urban Development to plan water system improvements with an estimated total cost of 331000. The project includes a new elevated storage tank plant additions and system extensions to serve unserved areas.
Clermont County Farm Bureau announces an informative meeting for farmers homeowners and others affected by land acquisition for the East Fork Dam and Reservoir Project near Batavia. The July 10 8 00 p m event at Williamsburg High School Gym features a panel including a Corps of Engineers representative and Ohio Farm Bureau officials.
County Commissioners granted pay raises July 1 for Welfare Director Wayne Oney and welfare staff. Oney rose from 10 320 to 10 360 after a 40 increase voted by Cann and Houser. Blake opposed. Staff increases included Ausman from 575 to 600 Fisher Kieseweter from 420 to 440 Eichenlaub Mays Barbara from 400 to 420 Winters Hall from 380 to 400 Williams from 345 to 360 and Hartley from 240 to 252.
Fire at 3 37 a m Sunday gutted the interior of the Log Cabin Inn on US 52. One roof corner damaged. Owner Carl Tattenhorst had left the tavern at 3 a m and learned of the blaze on returning home. Fire blamed on lightning with estimated loss of 18000 dollars.
Tondelaye R. Sylvester, 24, of Cincinnati, was cited for speeding after her car struck the rear of a West Point Kentucky driver Lodean L. Cogar’s auto on US 50. Sylvester said she fell asleep before impact. she suffered a leg injury. Separately, Terry Smith, 18, of Newport West Virginia escaped serious injury when his car stalled on a railroad crossing and was hit by a Norfolk and Western train. his car was demolished.

The case against Phillip G. Bailey a 22 year old Batavia picket at Beckford Station and Local 1347 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers was continued to 9 a.m. July 18 He allegedly placed a log to block access to Beckford Station in violation of a court order Cincinnati Gas and Electric Co charged Bailey and the union with the obstruction case in Clermont County Common Pleas Court before Judge M Dale Osborne.
Entries for the sixth annual Cherry Grove Art Show are closing soon with judging at noon and ribbons at 3 p.m. Amateur and professional artists over high school age may enter by July 12 at the Cherry Grove Plaza Merchants Association or via a form at Sherwin Williams.
