New Richmond Recreation Board Expands Public Parks

New Richmond's Recreation Board develops park facilities for public use. About 150 people joined a Sunday basket picnic hosted by local playground clubs. The event featured games, a concert, and a push for community support, including softball funding. The board acknowledged a $128.65 gift from the 1949 Recreation Committee and invited further donations.

Batavia Doctors Take Vacation Amid Local News

Dr. F. Skeen and Dr. C. J. McCloy of Batavia will be absent for two weeks as they take a vacation. Dr. Skeen closed his office yesterday and plans to return July 24. Dr. McCloy and family begin a western trip this Sunday. Earl Smith was named secretary treasurer of the Batavia Business Men's Club, replacing Carl Ladhow who moved to Mt Carmel. Smith runs Smith Radio and Television Shop. New members have joined the club, now representing most local businesses, with banners to be displayed at the weekly drawing near the courthouse and Main and Water Streets.

Races Draw 1000 Fans At Glen Este Bowl

About 1,000 spectators gathered Sunday July 7 for stock car racing at the Glen Este Bowl off State Route 74. The one-quarter mile dirt track promises roaring motors and tire squeal each Sunday and holiday until further notice. Owners are Mr and Mrs Calvin Kelly of Route 1 Milford.

Batavia Council Approves Parking Meter Installation

Batavia officials voted to install parking meters after seeking unbiased opinions from Ohio village officials. The council discussed parallel parking, noting many cars remain on village streets. The taxi tab permit for Batavia Cab Company transferred from Don Idlett to Elias Moore, who plans to buy another auto for the business soon.

Wintersole resigns as Milford night patrolman

Joseph N. Wintersole, Milford’s night patrolman for the past two and a half years, turned in his resignation effective July 15. No reason was given, and village officials are accepting applications for the position.

Clermont County Commissioners Fund Farm Maintenance Boost

The Clermont County commissioners voted to add 1500 dollars for upkeep of the Owensville experiment farm. The decision follows a prior October allocation of 500 dollars against a 2000 dollar limit. Batavia Rotary Club members hosted a visit by crippled children from Cincinnati and Ohio at Lake Allyn near Olive Branch. The program included a magic show and a pony ride event with Feldman Farm and Home Center providing ponies and attendants.

Clermont County Draft Office to Stay Open Five Days

Clermont County will keep the Batavia draft office open eight hours daily five days a week to process 20 000 youths in the first nationwide draft. About 1 140 from Ohio are slated for the state total with 241 local 1A registrants and 19 already passed physicals.

Miamiville Man Fined on Reckless Driving Charge

Elmer Worley of Miamiville was fined $10 and costs on a reckless driving charge after his car struck a pole on Main Street near the Schoolyard. The incident occurred late Monday following a previous report of misbehavior by Mayor A. G. Aiken.
