Two Hurt In Route 125 Crash That Killed Horses

On Route 125 near Bantam and Bethel last Thursday night a car collided with a team of horses, killing both animals and injuring four passengers. James Iles, Margaret Kinner, William Curtis, and Tommy Tolin were in the car. Tolin drove, Bethel Iles owned the vehicle. Sheriff Brooks and Deputy Abbott cleared the scene. Tolin was fined $200 and costs for reckless driving. Ernest Fancher received $325 for horse losses.

Batavia Girl Joins Middletown Hospital Staff

Miss Ruth Lewis of Batavia has completed study at Columbus as an X-ray technician and accepted a position in The Community Hospital Middletown Ohio. She will work in the X ray laboratory and perform electro cardiographs in addition to X rays. She was formerly with Dr. F S Skeen prior to her Columbus course.

A Cincinnati visitor reports that Texan Congress rejected the proposition of Mexico and chose Annexation to the United States by a large majority. If true, the Annexation scheme may be considered consummated.

Fire destroys station and freight house of local railroad

An 11:30 p.m. fire last Thursday damaged the C P and W line station and freight house. Fire was blamed on careless lights used by house burglars. With limited water and no other property endangered, efforts to save the building ceased as it burned late. A box car now serves as a station while plans for a brick, fireproof replacement with a night watchman are urged.

Pt Pleasant Soldier Killed in Action

Mr and Mrs Daniel Wilkerson of Pt Pleasant were notified Tuesday that their son Corp Roy W Wilkerson was killed in action February 19 over Marburg Yugoslavia. He was waist gunner on a B 24 and had previously been listed as missing. He has two brothers in service, Pfc Earl J Wilkerson in Germany with the Ninth Army and T 5 Fred D Wilkerson in France with the Medical Corps.

Hospital Care Expands Coverage in Batavia

The Hospital Care Corp expands its policy to fully cover preexisting ailments for Batavia enrollees. New applicants may enroll 30 days before quarterly billing, with applications received before August 1 becoming effective September 1.

Judge Denies Clermont County Divorce Bid Amid Residency Findings

Judge Harry Britton ruled the Clermont County case lacked jurisdiction as the plaintiff Mrs. Fannie Ford failed to prove bona fide residence there, while her husband resides in Cincinnati. The hearing noted her real home and child schooling in Hamilton County and a prior denial of divorce in Hamilton County in 1944.

Private Estle Warman earns Purple Heart for Luzon action

Private Estle Warman of Batavia Ohio and Cincinnati Ohio earned the Purple Heart for wounds received in the Villa Verde Santa Fe drive in northern Luzon with the 126th Infantry 32nd Red Arrow Division. Sergeant George W Long of Felicity Ohio won the Silver Star for gallantry in the Cabaruan Hills Luzon on January 20. Long advanced under heavy fire to seize a Japanese position and continued despite wounds.

Fette to Make Tour of Farms in Clermont County

The Clermont Soil Conservation District could not meet for lack of a quorum as harvest kept several supervisors away. Chairman Elmer Norris proposed Conservationist David Fette lead an August farm tour to view soil and water conservation progress, with an educational exhibit planned for the county fair. Nineteen ponds were surveyed to adjust acreages and prevent overstocking.
