Youth Hero Saves Lad From Fire in Withamsville

Gary Spurlock, 16, is credited with rescuing 10-year-old Robert Sutton from a house fire at 7300 Pike in Withamsville. Gary found Robert at the front door, pulled him outside, and performed mouth to mouth resuscitation. The two story frame home was destroyed. the family seeks clothing and furniture for children aged 10, 4, and 3. Call 752-9171 to help.

Mussey to Attend Midwestern Council of State Governments

State Representative William Mussey of Brown and Clermont Counties is chosen by the Ohio House Speaker to join the Midwestern Regional Conference of the Council of State Governments in Bismarck North Dakota. He leaves Columbus on Sunday July 14 for the four day event, focusing on agriculture and conservation issues.

Parole Violator Held On Stolen Check Charges

Edward L. Luster, 36, of 136 Wright Street Rittman, is charged with cashing three payroll checks for 137 each at area stores. A parole violator held in Clermont County Jail after Police Chief Robert Vice arrested him at Mrs. Alice Parker home on Blue Sky Road. He surrendered when he heard the revolver cocked.

Restroom at U S Grant Memorial Park OK’d for Bid

The Ohio Highway Department will seek bids to construct a new restroom in the roadside park near the U S Grant Memorial on US 52 after Gov. Rhodes intervened. The facility had been destroyed by flood and was originally to be abandoned but will now be restored.

West Clermont Board Approves Staff, Buses and Insurance

The West Clermont Board of Education approves seven administrators and nine teachers, buys five school buses, and selects Nationwide Insurance for student coverage. New staff include Vincent Gilley and Raymond Amigo among others. bids from Thompson Chevrolet and Thomas Co. cover bus chassis and bodies. A Bethel Tate-Monroe water meeting is scheduled July 16 to discuss issues with the Ebon C. Hill School event.

Batavian Elected Board of Directors to Family Service

Mrs. Richard Jamieson of Batavia was elected to the board of Family Service of the Cincinnati Area along with new trustees Theodore Berry Arthur C. Elliott Mrs Eugene Geier and Rev G A Poynter. The agency provides confidential counseling across five counties and seeks to expand cross county bus service for seniors and clinic patrons as Clermont County officials pursue aging grants and revised funding. The county budget faces constraints as departments seek $1.455 million for 1969 with income projected at $1.135 million and possible increases to $1.3 million.

Bethel Observes Last Rites For Kariene Burke

Funeral services were held for Kariene Burke 66 widow of Edmund Glenn Burke in Bethel. Burke died last Saturday in New York. Burial was at Main Street Cemetery. Her husband funded a 13 acre park, a swimming pool, cemetery care, and an ambulance purchase. She offered 50000 for a county hospital bond issue. She leaves two daughters in New York City and a brother in New York City.

Batavia Council Names Assistant Chief of Police

Batavia selects N. C. Ward as assistant police chief on Monday after Edward Colonel retires on July 15 for disability. Ward, ex State Highway Patrol, will earn 7800 plus health coverage while the chief’s max salary is raised to 9800. Council also set Sewage Plant upgrade deadlines and approved a 250 contribution to Youth recreation. A 1969 village budget of 56550 income and 56340 outlay was adopted, with plans for a Seventh and New street neighborhood park and summer Civic Club break.
