Farm Bureau Votes Against Redistricting Move

Walter Smith reports Clermont County Farm Bureau directors unanimously oppose Ohio constitutional amendment to redraw state legislative districts. Petitions need 241,287 signatures across 44 counties, with at least 5 percent of gubernatorial votes per county, plus 732 in Clermont. Residents urged to vote against should it appear. The group argues rural Ohio voice would be lost under city-controlled legislature. Additionally, Mr. and Mrs Al Boyce hosted Sunday guests Elton Miller and Jimmie Boyce.

Miss Billie Wilson and Mr. Charles E. McMichael were quietly married at the Presbyterian Manse last Friday evening. Wilson has served as secretary in Nichols Speidel Nichols. McMichael is a chemist for Procter & Gamble. They left for a ten day Canada trip and will reside in College Hill.

WPA Employees Earn Red Cross Credit Certificates

Thirty WPA project workers and one Bethel School bus driver in Clermont County receive Red Cross Certificates for 20 hours of First Aid instruction. County Completes First Half Budget with Tiny Surplus

After six months of tight economies county government reports a net balance of 4.97 dollars in the general fund for fiscal year 1940. Appropriations total $85,224.04 and receipts $85,229.01 for the period ending June 30. Second half appropriations expected about $20,000 less.

Clermonter Daniel Maham Dies at 65 in Newtonsville

Daniel Maham of Newtonsville died Monday night at Christ hospital at age 65. He retired 11 years ago. Burial will be Wednesday at 2 pm. He leaves a widow and one sister Mrs John Shriner of Milford.

Real Estate Tax Payable July 29 Opens Clermont County

Clermont county real estate taxes for 1939 become due on July 29 as the county treasurer opens the offices for the second semi annual collection. Bills will be mailed to property owners before opening day and taxpayers are urged to wait for their tax bill before paying. The final closing date is September 10.

Tax examiner to aid Clermont vendors next week

Howard Mitchell, sales tax examiner for Clermont, Brown and Highland counties, will be in the treasurer's office at the courthouse on July 17 and July 31 to assist vendors in completing semi annual sales tax reports. He will also be at the First National Bank in Milford on July 22 and at the First National Bank in Bethel on July 25 to help local vendors.

Clermont County Fair Set for August 13 to 16

Directors of the Clermont County Agricultural Society meet July 17 to finalize plans for the county fair from August 13 to 16. Grange and Farm Bureau Day Wednesday, a Friday 11:00 am parade of premiums and 4 H FFA groups, and a professional acts Friday evening. The horse show runs August 14 and 15 with big Grand Championship Stakes sponsored by Kroger and local businesses.

The Nifty Stitch Clothing Club met at Monterey School House on July 1 at 2 PM, pledging and singing America. Jolly Workers Club Meets at Schoolhouse For July 12

The Newtonsville Jolly Workers Club held its third meeting at the school house with Doris Marshall presiding and Juanita Swartz reading the minutes. After business, refreshments by Marjorie Stamets and Gladys Day were enjoyed and the group planned to meet again on July 12 at the school house. The Fords held a farm picnic on the Fourth.

Edward C. Saxton announces that Clermont County wheat growers may apply for at risk crop insurance for 1941. Premiums and yields will reflect 1939 data with revisions, coverage starts when the county committee accepts the contract and the crop is seeded.

Sheriff Fines Bookie Operator in Clermont County Raid

Sheriff Garland G. Auxier conducted raids on Old Farm House near Owensville and Brook's Place near Amelia as part of a county wide gambling crackdown. William L. Brodie, 53, was fined 50 dollars plus costs and given a 30 day suspended jail term after admitting to running a horse wagering room. The second case was scheduled for Tuesday night before Magistrate J. M. Wiseman.
