Tragic double tragedy in auto on A and P Highway
John Bailey 24 and Mrs. Veltora Herbert 38 of New Richmond Ohio were found fatally struck in a car on the A and P Highway Sunday morning. A 32 caliber pistol bullet caused the deaths with coroner verdicts of passing by own action and serious case. Mrs Herbert leaves two children and her husband Richard Herbert was held for investigation. Sheriff and deputies secured the scene and arrangements were made by T P White & Sons for burial.

Bolhevis of Cincinnati shot his friend John Spencer near Ten Mile after a day’s celebration. The shooting followed an incident with Bolhevis’s wife and a banjo blow from Robt. Spencer. Bolhevis was jailed by Sheriff Roberts on murder charges.

Murder Sparks in Goshen Area Over Suitor
Bird Harp a Cincinnati farmer and bachelor shot Fred Sweeney Sunday near Goshen with a 22 flobert rifle. Sweeney died that night. Harp is jailed on murder charges after deputies quickly secured him. Sweeney had earlier faced a wife poisoning case but was acquitted.

Former Clermonter Scott Croswell Dies in Mansfield
Word reached relatives on Tuesday of the death of Scott Croswell at his daughter Mrs. Mabel Switzger’s home in Mansfield Ohio. Born near Cedron he lived in Felicity before moving his family to Mansfield where funeral services were held at the M E Church by Rev L D Phipps. Burial was in Sewanie cemetery. He was an early guard at Mapafield Reformatory and helped transfer the first prisoners from Columbus.

Fourth of July Celebrations Reported in Williams burg Batavia
The 4th of July featured all day parades, fireworks and carnivals across Williamsburg Batavia. Williams burg hosted an all day celebration with a night fireworks display attended by about 5 000 people. Batavia ran a three day carnival with booths rides and a home talent show in a former Rapps store room. Proceeds funded a new Batavia fire engine and local bands performed at events. The Norwood Legion Drum Corps contributed music and a sham fire demonstration showcased the fire department. Milford hosted games baseball boxing and a large visiting crowd.

Meadow Fire Across Afton Area Burns Meadow and Hay
A 1b acre meadow on Leonard Anstaett’s farm along Deerfield road near Owensville and Williamsburg burned July 4 as Zenas Anstaett began cutting. Firefighters from across the region, over 100 strong, saved adjoining property. a furrow protected fields. A second blaze near Afton, sparked by a freight engine, burned Joe Pattison’s hay. Wendell Shell a 67 year old retired butcher living near Owensville died from burn injuries suffered while burning brush on his property. He was last seen at dinner, found deceased by a family member with burns from the waist down. Survived by a widow a daughter and two sons. Burial Thursday.
