The Davis Hill stretch on the State pike from Batavia to Hamlet on the Grant Highway will be improved this summer after preliminaries. State Highway Department official Mr. Smith and deputy Fred Croswell examined the road noting its dangerous condition and the need for substantial work and funding. Detour routes will use the Batavia Brazier pike to the Grant Highway below Amelia, with travel restored after repairs.

Batavia announces a three day celebration starting July 3 with a 8 PM light parade featuring Bethel American Legion Drum Corps Batavia American Legion Drum Corps Batavia Concert Band and Batavia High School Band. Cincinnati man convicted of first degree murder in Brown County
Charles Cramer, 31, of Cincinnati and formerly of Hamilton, was found guilty of first degree murder in Georgetown Brown County Common Pleas. The jury deliberated 1 hour 45 minutes. death by electric chair is the sentence. Prosecution said four Cincinnatians plotted a robbery and Cramer fired the fatal shot. Cramer confessed to detective Ora Slater on May 17.

Wheat yield contest at Ellis Wolf farm near Bethel
A wheat yield estimating contest was held June 26 at the Ellis Wolf farm near Bethel with ten acres treated with nitrogen and four acres untreated. A $5 prize awaited the closest yield increase, over thirty farmers attended and estimates ranged from four to over ten bushels. All agreed nitrogen paid off.
