Sheehan urges independent Clermont County committee

Donald J. Sheehan former War on Poverty chairman urged formation of a Committee for an Independent Clermont to defend the county’s image and attract home buyers. He urged locals to write for more information and criticized Clermont’s subordination to Cincinnati area groups and a recent county commissioner statement.

Moscow Man Electrocuted Cleaning Cistern

Oraf H. Ernst 47 of Moscow Ohio was accidentally electrocuted Sunday while cleaning a cistern. He likely lost balance and grabbed an extension cord, found lying in water. A native of Cynthiana Kentucky, he worked at CG and E's Beckford Plant. He leaves a wife and three.

Glen Este Student Attends OSU Math Institute

Glen Este student George Eden field at 4461 Dogwood Dr. attends an eight week mathematics institute at Ohio State University running from Monday to August 13. The program for about 80 talented high school students is co sponsored by OSU and the National Science Foundation which provided a 28955 dollar grant administered through the OSU Research Foundation. The aim is to identify potential scholars among top performing students.

Bethel Recreation Commission Gets Three Appointees

Mayor O H Sharp appoints Lloyd Steber Dan Theis and Martin Courts to Bethel Recreation Commission replacing Russell Canter and William White. Courts serves on council. others are local businessmen. The re creation program began in 1959 with $11000 seed funds and now has about $2000 in reserve.

Area Scouters Receive Silver Beaver Award

Two area men, George H. Day of Milford on the executive board Dan Beard Council and Robert C. Griffin of Miamiville neighborhood commissioner, received the Silver Beaver Award for outstanding service to boyhood at Recognition Day on Saturday June 26 at Camp Edgar Friedlander. Lyda Perel Wood Street Batavia won 70 dollars in a drawn prize but received 5. other $5 prize winners were Elaine Lang Nash Pharmacy Kevin Bucher Jack's Super Valu Mrs Claude Smith and Mrs Ralph Murphy. All Post Offices will be closed Monday July 5 for the Independence Day holiday.

Injunction Hearing Set Over Annexation Proposal

A Cler mont County Common Pleas Court hearing is scheduled for July 12 to block the petition to annex part of Pierce Township into New Richmond. The injunction was filed by Eugene W. Jacobs and Richard Schmidt through Cincinnati firm LeRoux and Weber for Citizens for Self-Government. An appeal against a Union trustees ruling on the incorporation area was filed by the same group.

The Cincinnati Milling Machine Company honors two Batavia area residents for long service. Luther C. Cole, motor repairman at State Route 132 address, joined June 12, 1935. Vincent Gay of Belfast Road began July 15, 1935 in gear department and has worked on gear finishing. Engraved watches presented.

National Youth Science Camp Participants Named

Dave Wiseman and William Raum, both 18 of Amelia, join 48 other top science-minded students from across the nation at the National Youth Science Camp held at 4-H Camp Pocahontas near Bartow, West Virginia. The program runs June 27 to July 17 with lectures by government, industry, and university scientists. Wiseman, Amelia High School graduate and former drum major, will study at Miami University this fall.

Mrs Charlene Ashley R N of Batavia tours European hospitals after the 13th Quadrennial Congress of the International Council of Nurses in Frankfurt Germany. She returns July 9 and represented Our Lady of Mercy Hospital Mariemont at the eight day conference.

Four Clermont Girls' Staters Hold Office

Four county girls were elected to office at Buckeye Girls' State on the Cap ital University campus in Columbus. Connie Mae Wagers of New Richmond became auditor. Linda Darlene Kress of Batavia won House of Representatives seats. Barbara Lee Ross of Loveland joined the Governor's Cabinet as director of health. Paulette McWhorter of Amelia was named police chief.

County curbs use of MGS water due to drought

County Commissioners ordered conservation measures for the Miami Goshen Stonelick Water System because of prolonged drought. They banned sprinkling and warned of prosecution for opening fire hydrants. Boost capacity at Booster Station No 1 to be completed in about 45 days.

Clermont County Launches Home Nursing Service

Dr. Albert W. Van Sickle announces a county wide home nursing program funded by a grant from the Ohio Department of Health. The Clermont County Health Department will operate the service with physician oversight, an advisory medical board, and a per visit charge of 4.50, offering care to those unable to pay and coordinating with agencies for client services. The service runs 8:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. weekdays, with emergency calls as needed, and contact via the Health Department. NEW RICHMOND The Ohio Township Democratic Club meets July 1 at 8:15 at Margaret Chandler's home 723 Front St to plan the annual picnic.

Knothole Assn Plans Fourth of July Family Picnic

Goshen Knothole Association announces its fourth annual July 3 4 family event to benefit local baseball. Activities include a chicken fry at Goshen Methodist Church, teen dance, Class A baseball games, parade, social, pony rides and a large fireworks show. Proceeds support 150 boys 60 girls in summer programs.
