John Honas Hugo a 22 year old Batavia resident died instantly Monday when a borrowed motorcycle hit a culvert on the Ohio Pike near Hamlet. Officials cite possible gasoline leak diverting attention before loss of control. Survived by wife Gladys Waggal Hugo and his parents George and Mrs Hugo. Funeral set for Thursday with Moore Funeral Home in charge.

Teen bicyclist struck by hit and run driver near Batavia
Joseph Dawson a 16 year old from near Batavia was hit by an automobile driven by William Cassler on the Ohio Pike near Hamlet at about 6 p m Saturday. He was riding a bicycle and was taken to Dr Mott Amelia with a leg fracture. A warrant for Cassler's arrest was issued Tuesday.

Sheriff Clears Robberies In Two Counties
Two major recent robberies near Felicity and New Richmond were partially solved by the sheriff and Hamilton County police. Red Auxier identified owners of a Plymouth abandoned near Felicity and recovered loot from Castlen Department Store in Cincinnati. In New Richmond, investigators learned the Plymouth had been stolen from Painter's Garage with no known time of theft. Mrs Castlen identified about two thirds of the loot in Cincinnati, where it was found behind a garage at 1649 Clayton Street. Commodore Spear, 25, faces five burglary charges related to the New Richmond case.

Big Still Raided by Sheriff Near Batavia
A large still capable of producing hundreds of gallons of homebrew was found Tuesday by Sheriff Garland Auxier on the Batavia Stonelick Road two miles northwest of Batavia. Operators fled, twenty two barrels of mash were demolished, and a large quantity of bootleg liquor was poured out. No clues to the bootleggers, in operation about three weeks, were found, but authorities expect they will not return to Clermont County.

E E Houghton Dies After Brief Illness in Felicity
E E Houghton a Felicity resident of over fifty years died at his home after a brief illness Tuesday night. A former railway conductor and later a butcher, he was a Mason, D of A and Cincinnati Street Railway Union member. Funeral services were held Friday at Broadwell Funeral Home with Masonic services Thursday evening. Survived by wife Belle, son W M Houghton, daughter Marie Speidel and grandchildren.

John Croswell aged 16 of Williamsburg died seven hours after a head on crash on Columbia Avenue near McDowell Street. Sydney Wymer 37 sustained chest injuries and facial cuts while nine other occupants suffered less serious fractures and cuts. Marvin Young of Cincinnati drove the other car. both vehicles were near the center of the road according to patrolmen.

Fourth of July Celebration Draws Large County Crowd
Batavia held a Monday night Fourth of July on the school grounds with a mammoth fireworks display starting about 9 00 p m. The show was a gift of Judge Hugh Nichols and organized by the local American Legion post. Attendance ranged from five hundred to fifteen hundred, and the crowd agreed the display ranked with the best in the county.
