Extension Sought From State On Airport Grant
Clermont County officials Nelson Roakes and Col William Shilling traveled to Columbus to request an extension on the airport grant deadline set for June 30. They cited a bona fide offer of a 41 acre tract by Clermont Industrial Inc near Batavia and Union Townships as potential airport land if an extension is granted. The Clermont County Highway Department will begin mowing operations once the grant terms are finalized.

Commission Adds Pre-School Classes for Retarded Children
Following a meeting with the Council for Retarded Children county commissioners announced plans to add pre school classes to its program for retarded children. One class operated at All Saints Lutheran Church Mt Carmel from February through May with an average of nine attendees. A second class in another county area would be profitable. Both classes run through the Welfare Department which oversees community classes for 70 children at the County Service Center. The council also operates a sheltered workshop for retarded youth with support from United Appeal.

Auditor reports half-year real estate tax distribution
Auditor Arnold Stumpf announced the final distribution of 3,946,813 in real estate taxes for the first half of the year. Schools received 3,036,555, villages were paid, and the remainder supported state, county, and aid funds. The county extension office moved to remodeled courthouse annex spaces for agents and staff. Kenneth H. Jones resigns as Batavia Schools superintendent after three years, effective July 31, to assume the Geneva Area City Schools post on August 1. The Batavia board, led by Paul Lewis, praised his service. Geneva district serves about 3400 students and recently approved a 1.2 million bond for a new junior high and other improvements.

Courts Granted Additional Money to Common Pleas Courts
Judge M Dale Osborne asked county commissioners for a 5100 increase in the Common Pleas Courts budget for 1967. He sought 1000 for indigent defense, 3200 for court reporters, 500 for a court constable, 200 for juror commissioners, and 200 for stationery and supplies. The total 1967 budget for the two courts was 59813. A request from Murph and Murph Subdivision Developers to rebuild subdivision roads with withheld contractor funds via the Union Township sewer system was referred to Prosecuting Attorney Robert A Jones.
