Three Toll In Clermont County From Weekend Crashes

Three traffic fatalities and eight injuries were recorded in Clermont County over the weekend. The dead include Mrs. Rachel Foreman, 61, of Mt. Crab, John Charles Ernst, 15, of Ward's Corner, and Yvonne Daugherty, 16, of Cincinnati. Overall crashes occurred on Rt. 276 near Owensville, Guinea Pike, Broadway Loveland, Rt. 132 near New Richmond, and Tebasco Rd near Rt. 125. Injured drivers and riders include Horace Foreman, 62, and five New Richmond youths treated at local hospitals.

Bond Ordered For Drag Strip Dispute Near Nicholsville

Judge Darrell R. Hottle in Highland County Common Pleas ordered Nicholsville area homeowners opposing a proposed drag strip to post a 2500 bond. The bond covers potential damages if the court later allows construction and operation. Landowners William Farmer and David Eads plan the strip. prior ruling allows construction but bars operation pending final decision.

Demolition Planned for Old Amelia School Razing To Cost Heavy

West Clermont board plans demolition after a July 9 meeting citing prohibitive rehab costs and unsafe conditions in the old Amelia elementary building. The structure would lose six classrooms and force split sessions in September despite an estimated 75 thousand dollars for partial renovations. A new principal is an inexhaustible source of new views.

Optometrist Opens Batavia Practice

Optometrist Stanley Rafalo opens a Batavia office at 333 West Main Street by appointment. He previously served two terms on the State Committee on Motorists' Vision, sits on the Cincinnati Optometric Association board, and appears on local TV for highway safety. The Clermont County Historical Society hosts an annual picnic Friday July 13 at 6 p.m. at Rocky Run Lake Belfast Road one mile north of Owensville with a covered dish supper and fishing or swimming for all ages. Milford trailer blast blamed on improper gas line

Deputies under Sheriff Clyde B. Dericks blame a poorly connected gas line for an explosion in a Milford Trailer Park trailer. Occupant Curtis Niemeister suffered burns to feet and ankles and was hospitalized at Christ Hospital. The blast occurred when Niemeister lit a cigarette. Trailer owner is Gino Antonio. Clermont County grand jury convenes July 9 and 10 to hear 17 cases presented by Prosecuting Attorney Ralph A. Hill.

Public Hearing Set on Rt 133 Route Change

A public hearing is scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday July 24 at the school in Edenton to hear arguments for and against the proposed transfer of part of State Route 133.

Parade Saturday Marks Start of Vacation Bible School

Newtonville area hosts a pre Bible school parade Saturday July 7 at 2 p.m. sponsored by Rev Warren Allen of Newtonsville Baptist Church. Participants meet 1 30 p.m. at Henry and Loretta Taylors Main Street and parade to Cedarville Road then Route 131 to the church for registration ahead of July 9 start. Bus service will run daily to and from Bible school through July 20, ending with a picnic.

Ison's Attorney Plans Second HearingRequest

Attorney Arnold Morelli says he will ask Judge Louis J. Schneider to reconsider former County Commissioner Don Ison's bribery conviction if the Ohio Supreme Court does not grant another hearing after denying his appeal. Ison was indicted Oct. 12, 1960 on four counts and convicted Dec. 7, 1960, receiving a 110 year sentence Jan. 10, 1961. The First District Court of Appeals upheld the decision Dec. 11, and Morelli appealed to the Ohio Supreme Court March 23.
