Livestock Judging Tour Planned for Clermont County

Butler Hamilton Warren and Clermont club members will gather July 9 in Clermont for a beef cattle sheep and hog judging tour. Ohio State University specialist Herbert Barnes and county agents will lead training at Glen Willows Farm Batavia and Aaron Anstaett and Fred Matthis farms nearby. Members are urged to attend for guidance on fitting handling and showing for county and state fairs.

Federal aid bill advances in House Education panel

The House Subcommittee on Education, led by Rep. Edward O. McCowen of Ohio, reported H. R. 2953 favorably to the House Education and Labor Committee by 6 to 2. McCowen urged quick action before adjournment to aid schools in need and prevent substandard opportunities for millions of American children.

Summer session enrolls 347 at Wilmington College

Eighteen Clermont County residents are among 347 students enrolled at Wilmington College for Summer School. The two five week terms run to July 12 and July 14 registration for the second term. County Roads to Be Improved in Clermont County

Preliminary arrangements have been made to improve several Clermont County roads. The County Engineer will provide estimates for stone on Stumpy Lane in Goshen Township and Sharp's Cutoff in Williamsborough and Jackson Townships. Asphalt purchases will fund Jackson Pike, Stone Lick and Jackson Townships, Newtonsville-Hutchinson Road, Stonelick and Wayne Townships, and Starling Road in Tate Township. Additional improvements target Taylor and Elklick Aston Roads. In Cincinnati, a son was born Saturday evening at Christ Hospital to Mr and Mrs Jerald B Fortney of Batavia. The baby weighed 7 pounds 14 1/2 ounces, born at 9:47 PM, with Dr F S Skeen in attendance.

Performers Listed for Batavia Magic Show

Plans are rapidly completed for a benefit performance by the Queen City Mystics at the Batavia school house on July 13. Featured will be Dr. Gregory Miceli of the Cincinnati Assembly, Rollin Haines, Marvelo, Harold Nichols, and other noted magicians. The event funds Batavia playgrounds.

Batavia Village Street Survey Planned After Council Meeting

After a Batavia Village Council meeting on Tuesday, the street committee is expected to survey the village to identify where repairs and resurfacing are needed. The focus is on determining valid locations for upkeep and planning work.

Reserve Officers Dinner Planned at Williamsburg July 10

Arrangements are set for the July meeting of the Reserve Officers Association at the Elms House Williamsburg Ohio at 7 30 PM. The Cincinnati office of Organized Reserve Corps will provide the month's training after the business session and dinner. Officers from Army Navy and Marine Corps Reserve and National Guard in Clermont Highland Brown and Adams Counties are invited to attend and urged to notify Lt Alvin P Smith by July 7.

Borns to Celebrate 50th Anniversary at Summerside Home

Mr and Mrs Helmutt Born will mark fifty years of marriage with an open house at their Summerside area home Sunday from 2 to 6 pm. They wed in Carthage Ohio on July 7 1897. Born a baker in youth he later moved for health and raised eight daughters on the farm. The couple now retired with most children living nearby including Mrs Dale in Mt Carmel and Mrs Earl Nash in Cincinnati. The Clermont Courier office will be closed Friday July 4 and open Saturday.

Joseph McCoy Jr Heads North Atlantic Training Cruise

Joseph C. McCoy Jr son of Mr and Mrs Joseph McCoy of Batavia sails Tuesday for a training cruise on the aircraft carrier Leyte in the North Atlantic. He is a senior midshipman in the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps at Miami University. After the cruise he will visit friends in New York and Washington DC.

Four Life Saving Outfits Planned for Clermont County

County Commissioners will buy four resuscitation outfits including inhalator and aspirator units to aid in heat and drowning rescues. Each unit costs about 500 dollars and will be housed in Batavia Milford Felicity and New Richmond with training provided by a manufacturer. Ownership rests with the county and local villages will oversee operations.

Party Returns from West Coast Trip

Mr and Mrs J C Hedges along with Mrs Hedges niece Miss Helen Sutton and Mrs Nora McKnight niece to Mr Hedges returned Saturday from a West Coast tour visiting the Grand Canyon Bryce Canyon Zion Sequoia Yosemite and other West Coast cities. They stopped to see Mrs Lillie B Hedges of Decatur Texas who recently returned from Africa. Mrs Hedges has spent thirty four years in missionary work and was featured in Life magazine on June 2.

Williamsburg Garden Club Plans for Sesqui Centennial Celebration

The Williamsburg Garden Club met on Tuesday July 1 at Elm House with hostess Mrs Frank Hutching assisted by Mrs William Hildebrandt and Mrs Burton Hodges. They plan to participate in the Williamsburg Sesqui Centennial Celebration on Friday and Saturday July 25 and 26.

Election Board Chairman Dies in Bethel

E. C. Manning of Clermont County chairman of the election board died last week at his Bethel home after four decades of business and political work. He is survived by his widow Blanche Perny Manning and Beulah Wakefield of Mt. Washington. Burial followed in Bethel Cemetery.

County Auditor to Get Increase in Salary

Clermont County Auditor Blythe Jones will receive extra pay during his current four term in office due to Republican revolt and sine die adjournment. Senate Bill 345 would empower the state tax commissioner to appoint agents in inheritance tax matters, with county auditors in all 88 counties named as agents. The Flood shown in Clermont County theatres

A Soil Conservation sound film titled The Flood will be shown at six Clermont County theatres from July 1 to July 18. The screenings include Happy Hour Williamsburg July 3 4 and Se Milford July 6 9 Rex Felicity July 10 11 Town Hall Batavia July 15 18 Midway Bethel July 15 18. The film, provided by the Soil Conservation Service, promotes soil conservation as essential to national wellbeing.

Delayed hearing for Claude Harney near Williamsville

The Claude Harney case charged with cutting with intent to kill was postponed from last Thursday to July 10. Victim Thomas Russell is slated to be discharged from hospital to testify. Other recent mayoral cases include Calvin Johnson and Vincent Garner fines for fighting and disorderly conduct, Edwin Wallis for reckless driving, Ed Johnson for drunkenness, Gerald Britton for driving while intoxicated, and Glenn Baker's eviction suit against the Hill family of Milford, where the defendants did not appear and the plaintiff won.

Cream producing meetings scheduled for Clermont County

The Ohio Dairy Products Association and the Clermont County Extension Service sponsor two cream producers meetings in Clermont County on July 7 and 8 open to all dairymen. Emphasis on quality cream production with a 4 H demonstration on milk utensil hygiene and a cream separator. Free ice cream and prizes at each session.
