Postal Change In Batavia Postmaster Takes Charge

Harry Hollerback begins duties as acting postmaster of the Batavia office succeeding Eleanor Coyle who served after her husband Claude Coyle’s death. Coyle praised patrons and staff for rising receipts and new rural routes and equipment before hoping Batavia achieves first class status. Reverend Paul W. Stephens attended the Ohio Presbyterian Synod meeting as a Cincinnati Presbytery representative.

New Richmond Cow Gives Birth to Triplet Calves

A New Richmond Hereford cow named Old Bessie, owned by Halder Few, delivered three healthy calves on June 19, a rare triplet birth. Dr J C Fitzpatrick notes it as a first in his 42 years practice. two females and one male nurse at the dam while one feeds from a bucket.

Two Get Orders To Naval Academy

Loveland Ohio reports William E. Byman and Dale Keeler have received orders to report as midshipmen at the US Naval Academy. Byman, valedictorian of the 1954 Loveland High School class, and Keeler, a 1953 graduate, were both Loveland students and candidates of Rep. James G. Polk.

Two Children Admit Dime Store Thefts

In New Richland two boys aged 8 and 9 confessed to breaking into E. J. Wells Five and Ten cent store on Front Street Sunday night. They admitted smashing a rear window and taking items including two nickels and a penny, hair tonic, shoe dye, an archery set, powder, powder puff and lipstick, and an unsuccessful attempt to break into the safe. They will face a county juvenile court hearing.

Incorporation Fails in Miaville Clermont County Vote

Miaville fell short of incorporation by 17 votes in Clermont County 97 against 84 in Tuesday balloting. With 177 of 278 eligible voters turning out supporters seek another vote. Had it passed Miaville would have been the county's 13th incorporated village.

Town Set For July 4 Event

New Richmond hosts an annual Fourth of July parade homecoming and basket picnic sponsored by the recreation board and playground mothers. The parade starts at 2:00 p m with floats from merchants the school bands and a VFW drill squad. The Pierce Township trustees announce the first sanitary landfill of its kind in southwest Ohio opens for use this Saturday on Merwin Ten Mile Road. The dump may serve neighboring townships if arrangements are made. Educator Accepts Brown School Superintendent Post

James William Alley 46 of Bethel accepted the Brown County schools superintendent job. His contract runs July 1 1954 to July 31 1955. Alley was Bethel principal for two years and has 19 years teaching experience, replacing H D West who resigned July 1.

Vets Officer Is President of Ohio Unit

Jim Griffith of Clermont County was elected state president of The Service Officers Group at Mansfield. The group within the Association of the Ohio Soldiers Relief Commissions includes county service officers from about 60 counties and shares news and ideas. Griffith also serves as Clermont County Civilian Defense Director and is active in the Frank W Weaver American Legion Post and Clermont County Council.
