Sheriff Clyde Dericks urges motorists to slow down for July holiday travel. Ohio State Safety Council reports speed causes two of every five fatal crashes. A 50 mph crash delivers 75 percent more impact than 40 mph, making injuries and damages far harsher.
Clermont area church and farm leaders join six neighboring counties to back the national overseas relief drive CROP. A Wilmington meeting featured Carl Landes and Wade Koons outlining plans to gather gifts in kind for shipment abroad, with a projected Ohio Food Train in July.
Mr and Mrs H C Patchell hosted a Sunday gathering at their Perry Town residence with guests Mr and Mrs Russell Patchell and daughter Donna Jean Mrs Bess Wheeler of Cincinnati and Rev Wright of Berea Kentucky attending a social visit.
William K. Mueller of Ft. Thomas Ky faces manslaughter charges after a September 28 1947 bicycle fatality near Point Pleasant. He was bound over to the grand jury in a hearing before Mayor A D Rettinger of New Richmond. Daisy Raines mother of 17 year old Betty Foley filed the charges.
George Van Camp of Circleville Ohio wins state highways contract to improve two Clermont County roads. Projects cover 3.52 miles on State Route 222 in Batavia and Stonelick Townships and 9 miles on State Route 132 in Ohio and Pierce Townships with October 1 completion target.
A Rainbo leaking truck exploded and burned near Lindale early Wednesday as driver Harry Reinert jumped to safety seconds before the crash. The blaze destroyed the entire truck load and contents.
The grand opening of Mt Carmel Pharmacy on Route 14 Mt Carmel takes place Saturday July 3 in a new 30 by 60 foot building with modern fixtures and planned air conditioning. Owner R R Reed previously ran Newtown Pharmacy on Main Street Newtown and says the project reflects faith in local growth. Manager is registered pharmacist Herman Wiemeyer.
Batavia physician Dr Miles J. Scott is recovering at Christ Hospital Cincinnati after a head injury and possible skull fracture from a fall at his home Monday night. He was treated by Dr A G Schulze of Amelia and moved to the hospital Tuesday morning.
A community service project will provide wheel chairs crutches and possibly a hospital bed at no cost. Magazine salesmen raised funds through subscriptions under Frank W. Weaver Post No 237 Batavia. Equipment available temporarily on loan by contacting H K Hillin or James Patchell Batavia Ohio.
Mike Haney bound over to Clermont County grand jury on non support charge. He placed under $50 bond by Mayor A Q Mundew of Batavia and remains jailed for failing to post bond.
Deputy Auditor Earle Kin caid and Tax Settlement Clerk Charles Tilbury traveled to Columbus with last real estate collection and inheritance tax settlement sheets. The settlements received approval from the Auditor of State and will be distributed within two weeks. The officials also met Walter Garrison and Ford Becker to discuss real estate tax rates and levies.
Clermont County's portion of the second distribution of 1948 auto license fees totals 30,167.28 dollars according to State Registrar Ed ward Fogo who is preparing checks for mailing. State funds amount to about one million dollars more than last year, Fogo noted.
All league teams completed their Sunday and upcoming schedule details are listed. Batavia defeated Williamsburg Legion 12 3 while Amelia beat Marathon 29 7. Goshen beat New Richmond Legion 5 2 with Holt taking the loss after a prior no hitter. Love land VFW beat Mulberry 7 3 and Owensville won over Williamsburg Merchants 4 3. Mt Carmel lost to Bethel 9 5 with next games set for July 4 and postponed clashes rescheduled July 5.
Mrs Anna Slade widow of Charles Slade died early Monday at Fort Hamilton Hospital Hamilton Ohio at age 82. She lived in Batavia with family for years then with her daughter in Columbus. Survived by daughter Mrs Julian Fishback Columbus and four sons Elton Dayton Harry Florida Clarence Batavia George Hamilton. Services held at William Sterling Moore Funeral Home Batavia with interment there.
Miss Joy May Warner of Utica resigns as Home Demonstration Agent for Clermont County on July 15 after two years of service. She will marry Herbert M. Campbell of Owensville, son of Mr and Mrs Robert Campbell. Campbell is a license manager at Dorsey Thrift Market in Batavia. No wedding date has been set.
The Queen City Mystics, Cincinnati’s oldest magic society, plan the annual Batavia picnic and a public magic review at Batavia School auditorium on July 12. Proceeds benefit the local athletic and recreation association. Harold Nichols, president, and Ronald Haines, secretary, along with a Cincinnati magician, return from the national convention at Atlantic City with new effects to debut.
Grace Roudebush married Howard Wilson last Saturday at Batavia Methodist Church. The ceremony was officiated by Rev. AOC Rainsberger with attendants Miss Mary Lu Strieter and Murray Dalton. The bride, daughter of Mrs Helen Roudebush, and the groom, son of Mr and Mrs Homer C Wilson, are Batavia High School graduates. The couple plans to reside in Oxford Ohio after a reception at the Wilson home.
Summerside Methodist Church completes a week of Daily Vacation Bible School with 76 enrollees. A combined church program ends the session led by Rev. J. Robert Boggs. Sanctuary redecoration was recently completed.
Cub Pack 157 will collect paper in the Withamsville Tabasco area on Saturday July 3. Paper may be left at the Withamsville fire house Rittenhouse s on McLean Drive Lists on Clough Lane or Picklehimer s at Glen Este on Thursday Friday or Saturday. Separating and tying magazines and paper will be a big help.
A Monday auto wreck on State Route 69 near Fayetteville left three injured: Mrs. Bessie Peyton 46, Robert Peyton 8, and Louise Peyton 15 all residents of Dayton.
Miss Mary Evelyn Lamb and Howard EB Wildey wed at Franklin Chapel on Saturday evening June 12 at 8 39. The bride, daughter of Mr and Mrs Clarence E Lamb of New Richmond Ohio, wore eyelet embroidered gown with fitted bodice full skirt and coronet veil. She carried a colonial bouquet of white roses.
The Court of Appeals reversed the Clermont County Court of Common Pleas verdict for defendant in Kerr and Kerr vs Parsons over water supply misrepresentation. It says the prior jury instruction allowed alternative interpretations and that the case should focus on deceit rather than promises. A retrial is likely in the Common Pleas Court.
Arthur Crum a 50 year old Bethel grocer is set for a Thursday evening hearing before Mayor Luther Santer on a charge of possessing whiskey and wine in a dry community. A raid last weekend by Sheriff Clyde Dericks Deputy Marvin Bisantz and Police Chief Howard Pitzer uncovered 28 pints of wine several bottles of whiskey and broken bottles. Bethel has been a dry town for years.
Bethel residents join over 30 million Americans as Blue Cross members per Mrs. Velma Ballinger. The drive aims for 50 percent of un enrolled Bethel residents with a 60 percent quota and closes July 7 1948. Clermont County towns Batavia Williamsburg New Richmond Milford Pt Pleasant Moscow and Neville have adopted Hospital Care plans.

Heavy windstorms Sunday and Tuesday caused damage to buildings trees and crops in Clermont County. Near Lindale on State Route 749 several trees were blown down across the highway and workers were called to clear the roadway for traffic.

Jack Snyder of Amelia to Regular Army for two years, initial assignment Fort Jackson South Carolina. William Walker of New Richmond to European theater with Fort Jackson first. Veral Carle of Loveland to armored forces for Ohio Military District recruiting duty. Robert Sloan of Milford to Regular Army for three years, basic training at Fort Jackson with option to attend Army Technical School.
The Milk Producers Union will hold a meeting at 8 o clock Thursday evening July 1 at the Court House in Batavia.
