Guard Units Accepting Enlistments Across Nation
National Guard units nationwide see a surge of draft age men applying after Congress passed a bill. Locally Captain H E Hogberg says Clermont County's 147th Infantry unit still has vacancies and urges timely action before the President signs to gain draft exemptions. Batavia Armory will open Monday evening from 7:30 to 9:30 for enlistments in order of arrival until quotas are met.

Clyde Boner named by Clermont County Commissioners to succeed Loren Heckathorn as superintendent of the Clermont County Home starting July 1. Heckathorn’s removal was pursued after a disputed resignation. Judge Harry Britton issued an injunction keeping him in charge until Boner’s arrival. Mrs Alma Boner will be matron. they have two children, Nancy and John, with a county home apartment provided.

Loveland Police Chief George Moon died Monday shortly after finishing a village tour. Dr. G E Steele and the life saving squad rushed to aid him after his collapse but could not revive him. Moon had been in ill health for some time.

County Conservation Fund Reduced to 26800
At a June meeting the Clermont County Agricultural Conservation Committee announced a 1948 fund for conservation of 26800, down from 72000 in 1947. Farmers must self finance lime purchases to receive only the approved portion, with payment falling between minimum and maximum assistance if practices are followed. River sanitation expert to address county sportsmen
The Clermont Sportsmen Inc will host Hudson Biery of the Ohio River Valley Water Sanitation Commission as guest speaker for the June 25 meeting. Firecrackers Spark Batavia Police Chase Arrests
Firecrackers set off in Batavia early Sunday led to a high speed chase ending in Marathon. Three youths Clarence and Arthur Jones and Carson Whittaker were fined 50 dollars and costs with the fine suspended. Clarence Jones also fined for reckless driving.
