Labor Saving Show At Owensville Draws 1200 Attendees

More than 1,200 farmers homemakers and students attended the Farm and Home Labor Saving Show at Owensville school on Monday. The Clermont County Extension Service with Ohio State University sponsored the event featuring labor saving devices and safety displays.

Apple given suspended sentence for neglected farm stock

Harry Reed Apple appeared before Justice J. M. Wiseman in Batavia this week and received a suspended $25 sentence for failing to properly care for multiple animals on his Stonelick area farm. Deputy Marvin Bissantz and Hamilton County A W A found livestock needing food and water. Apple agreed to arrange a caretaker.

England heads ag council in Clermont County

Russell G. England named president of the Clermont County Agricultural Council succeeding Ed Saxton. Officers include Herman Fagley as vice president and Dale Bee as secretary. New executive board members are Carl Anstaett and Albert Kellum. The council plans a rural home and farm improvement contest with prizes and focuses on better farm practices sanitation painting repairs and safety.

Moore Wins First Case Against Workman and Annie May

In the Court of Common Pleas, Moore fails to secure a commission on real estate sale. Defendants Workman and Annie May are represented by Charles G. White and John S. Moore of Ely White Davidson. Hugh C. Nichols counseled the plaintiff. This marked Mr. Moore’s first jury appearance after recent admission to Ohio practice.

Ault Receives Second Legion of Merit for Navy Rescue Work

Amelia resident Donald Ault, employed by The Industrial Milk Company of Batavia, was awarded the second Legion of Merit. The citation honors his leadership as First Lieutenant aboard the USS Weehawken during April to June 1945 for fire and rescue actions on damaged ships amid exploding munitions and fires, preventing greater damage and loss of life.

Second Day Deliberations Continue in Wilson v Woodrow Million

In Common Pleas Court Judge Harry Britton presides as jurors in the William Wilson versus Woodrow Million auto crash and personal injuries case remain deadlocked after a two day session. Jurors reported back Thursday at 11 a.m. still behind closed doors. Also listed State v Singleton for Monday, a grand larceny charge involving four dogs. Hampton v Burton, an August 2 1946 assault dispute from the Mound Inn Chile area, is slated for Tuesday.

Bids Open for Clermont County Road Improvements

Sealed bids are due by Monday Feb 3 with three projects in Clermont County. Newtonsville Hutchinson road in Stonelick to receive 900 tons of crushed stone over 2.5 miles. Goshen Belfast road in Goshen township to receive 250 tons on 0.7 mile. Lucas road in Wayne township to be improved 1.65 miles with 600 tons of crushed stone.

Services Held for Ed Rush Editor of Clermont Courier

Funeral services were held at Moore Funeral Home Batavia for Edward Rush longtime editor and manager of the Clermont Courier. Rush died after weeks of illness leaving widow Bertha Rush and daughter Helen Reynolds. He served on the Board of Elections and held Batavia village posts. He was active in church and fraternal groups.

Gaskins Named County Health Commissioner

Dr W H Bethel is named County Health Commissioner and will start Feb 3. Gaskins, formerly in Amelia and New Richmond, fills the vacancy since Dr A B Ream’s resignation in October 1945. Aulen, Defelice, and Hoffman have carried on county health work. McConaughy to resume duties after two-year Army leave.

Republican Committee Endorses Job Applicants

At a Batavia Court House meeting the Republican Central Committee endorsed several candidates for state jobs. R C Knause of Amelia was backed for Highway Department timekeeper, Lester Simmons for Superintendent of Highways, W O Hutson of Amelia for State Fire Marshal, and Fred Croswell for Middletown Divisional Highway Garage superintendent. Motor vehicle registrar posts across the county were also endorsed with no assignments announced.

County Scout Leaders To Meet In Cincinnati

Clermont County Scout leaders led by Russell Speidel will join the Cincinnati Area Council annual dinner at the Hotel Gibson Roof Garden. High honors include Acorn award qualifiers and five Silver Beaver awardees for outstanding service to youth. Thomas J. Keane, BSA civic relations chief, will speak. Boy Scout Week starts February 7.

New College Courses To Open At Wilmington High School

Two extension courses from Wilmington College will open at Williamsburg High School on February 5. The offerings are Survey of American Literature and Religious Education, with classes at 7 and 8 40 p m each Wednesday. Registration at Williamsburg Feb 3 or 5. Minimum 15 students needed. regular tuition applies. Courses provide two semester hours of credit and cater to community leaders and veterans unable to attend full-time study.
