Norris Heads Soil Conservation Board In 1947 Meeting

The Clermont Soil Conservation District held its first 1947 monthly meeting in Batavia. Elmer Norris was reelected chairman with Guy Jones as vice chair and George W. Schafer as secretary treasurer. The board considered raising the application fee to two dollars, ordered district stationery, and planned six timber closing sticks for cooperators. It approved 14 1946 farm plans and three 1947 plans, including Camp Edgar Friedlander forestry and a depleted hill farm by Paul Jarman, targeting 60 complete farm plans for 1947 amid active field layout on 126 farms. Ten farm owner applications were received, including Chas. Lorenz and Donald E. Taylor.

Following Don Feagan's move to Michigan, Amelia School Board fills unexpired term with Maurice Meehan. Special Services to Start Sunday at Batavia Church

A 15 week series begins Sunday February 9 at Batavia Evangelical United Brethren Church with Rev. I E Jenkins delivering all sermons. Morning themes focus on Christ answer to modern questions and evening on the life of Christ. Public invited to attend. The Common Pleas Court found State vs Singleton not guilty of stealing four hogs after a short jury deliberation.

Bethel Lions Stage Minstrel Show At Bethel School

Bethel Lions Club recently presented a minstrel show in the Bethel school auditorium with a cast list including Gordon Smith Richard Stevens Lon Lew is Lowell Gray Ernest Smith George Halse Laurence Dietz and more. Robert Buckler played Bethel Photo Studio Old Black Joe. A similar minstrel will be shown in Batavia next Wednesday under V F W Post 3954 sponsorship with a cast from Newtown.

Amelia Institute Set For Feb. 13-14

The 1947 Amelia Community Institute will be held February 13 and 14 in the Amelia school auditorium. Secretary-treasurer Nellie Mattox announced a complete program with prominent speakers old-time fiddlers a style show a band concert and a St. Bernadette School play. Sessions start at 9:30 a.m. 1:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Earle Kincaid chairs with Carl White as vice president.

Novena in Honor of St Bernadette Begins at St Bernadette

Beginning February 9 and for eight Sundays, a St Bernadette novena will be held at St Bernadette Church Amelia Ohio. Services at 3 PM include Rosary Novena prayers Benediction and blessing with the Relic of St Bernadette. Public is invited petitions may be sent to be placed in the Oratory.

Williamsburg Cage Season Ends February Fourteen

The Williamsburg basketball team will close its season February 14 at home against Moscow. The Clermont County Tournament runs February 19, 21, 22 and 29 with strong county entries, and the county champion and runner up will represent Clermont County in Cincinnati.

After bid openings for three road improvement projects in Clermont County, W. I. Trucking Company of Batavia was awarded all three contracts on its low bids of 1 697 50, 460, and 1 032.

Valentine Dance in Bethel Promises Community Fun

A Valentine dance by the Regular Veterans' Association John Morrell Post 149 Bethel will be held at the Bethel school auditorium on Saturday evening February 8. Commander Neal C. Perking of Dayton will give a brief address. Proceeds go to Post headquarters and colors of the V R V A. Public invited. A Home Demonstration meeting featured sugarless cake and spice fruit bars with other demonstrations. Next meeting February 13 at 10 30 a m in Summerside Church basement. Homemakers urged to attend with covered dish and table service. The Owensville M E Church will host its monthly social February 6 at 7 30 in the church lower room. Everyone invited.

Batavia village council study group led by Dr. Claude Smith considers adding ten street lamps at Knauer Avenue Sixth Seventh and Eighth Streets and along Route 74 Wood Street and Water Street. Each lamp would cost about 33 dollars yearly. report due at next council meeting amid recent 30 new lights and power upgrades.

Minstrel Show Set for February 12 in Batavia

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3954 Batavia will present a minstrel show at Batavia High School Auditorium at 8 p.m. on Wednesday February 12 1947. Cast joins from Newtown VFW Post and Auxiliary who recently drew a record crowd. A dress rehearsal is scheduled Sunday afternoon in Batavia School Auditorium. The Rev William Tate Patterson of Norwood Ohio Presbyterian Church will speak at Batavia Presbyterian Church Sunday February 9.

Judge Haussermann Plans Return to Philippine Islands This Summer

Clermont County's Judge John W. Haussermann, nearing his eightieth birthday, aims to return to the Philippines in June to rebuild mining and milling operations in Benguet Balatoo and Cal Horr. He built a large empire prewar, provided worker housing and services, and now seeks to restore production with chrome and gold mining as key outputs.
