Services Held For James Case Slain Taxi Driver

Military funeral services were held for James Case 31 a World War II veteran and Cincinnati taxi driver killed in a holdup near Newtown Friday night. The suspects Asbell Adams 19 Charles Sparks 22 and Richard Hibbard 15 confessed to the shooting and are in custody with potential grand jury action possibly carrying the death penalty. Case survived by his wife three children and extended family.

Owensville Juniors Plan Magic Show

The Owensville High School Junior Class sponsors a two hour magic performance by Howard and Martha Smith on February 4 at 8 p.m. The act features live canaries in a burning light, a dove and crystal casket, a French Guillotine illusion, live birds pulled from the air, Oscar the rabbit, and musical interludes.

The Clermont County Schoolmasters Club will meet at 5 30 p m Thursday Feb 5 at Withamsville, per president Stanley E Pattison. Local Home Demonstration Council Plans County Program

Clermont County homemakers council met to collect recommendations for Ohio State University. Members will gather homemaker input through March and reconvene March 11 to plan a program. Couple Charged in Beating of Six Year Old Boy

Mr and Mrs Carl Liggett of Hamersville face $500 bond and a hearing before Mayor Luther Canter in Bethel on February 2 for beating a six year old boy. Ruth Dahlheimer of Shar-onville issued warrants. she is the boy’s mother and former wife of Liggett. A Bethel teacher reported bruises prompting the investigation and custody details note Larry Liggett’s placement with grandfather F C Liggett after a 1942 divorce.

Winder Named to Resolutions Committee at State Convention

Richard Winder of Felicity was named by State President Joseph R. Thomas to serve on the resolutions committee at the Ohio State Association of Township Trustees and Clerks annual convention in Columbus January 22 to 24. The 20th winter meeting, with 5 000 members, included a dinner at the Deshler Wallick Hotel and sessions at Memorial Hall on township official duties.

County Treasurer John Friend announces tax books open February 16 for general tax collection. Taxpayers have six weeks to pay the first half of the year without penalty.

In Clermont County Common Pleas Court last weekend Judge Harry Britton awarded Craycraft $153.00 after a landlord dispute where $273.50 had been sought. Also on January 21 Lawrence Haley was found guilty of a man support charge.

Underfed livestock ordered sold in Batavia case

Sheriff investigation found nine sheep fifteen chickens three cattle and four turkeys on Harry Steinnecker’s Route 4 farm were underfed. He was fined 100 dollars and costs and sentenced to 80 days in jail with jail time and 60 dollars suspended after admitting to selling the stock.

A Clermont County Music Educators Association formed at Batavia Monday evening with nine schools represented. Alfred Rigner of Batavia named president, Densyl Custer of Bethel vice president, and Christine Williams of Goshen secretary.

73-Year-Old Chile Man Bound Over in Fatal Shooting

Gus Theatleman, 73, of Chile, was bound over to the grand jury on a $2000 bond after he killed his son in law during a family quarrel. The incident occurred when Angies husband Sterling Talley approached with a shotgun and Theatleman fired through a window, killing Talley. Theatleman pleaded not guilty to manslaughter before Mayor Canter in Bethel.

Clermont Safety Council evening program on train safety

The Clermont Safety Council will host an event on February 13 with H. A. Segrist of the N. & W. Railway visiting Batavia from Roanoke Virginia to discuss new railroad safety measures and farm and home safety. Fred Winter notes N. & W. has earned two annual safety awards. J. G. Glasgow of the N. & W. Magazine may attend and present the color film Big Trains Rolling. The meeting starts at 8 p.m. in the Court House Conference Room with Safety Council members and guests present.

Mardi Gras Party By Local Catholic Youth

The CYP club of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church Forestville and St Thomas More Church Willamsville hosts a Mardi Gras party at Withamsville Fire House on February 10. Proceeds benefit the CRYO Catholic Rural Youth Organization. Attendees are masked and a parade proceeds through Williamsville with a King and Queen, folk dancing by the Millville Ramblers, and refreshments.

Dispute Over Calf Will Be Settled In Court

A calf ownership dispute moves to Clermont County Common Pleas Court for a two day trial. Mrs. Emily Pratt found a stray calf near Bethel last autumn and-Ray Cox insists the animal is his. Cox previously lost in Justice of the Peace court Williamsville, where Mrs. Pratt prevailed.

Red Cross Thanks Responders for Fire Victims Aid

The local Red Cross Chapter expresses appreciation to those who generously answered the appeal for families burned out of their homes. Furniture clothing food and money have been sent to Red Cross Headquarters to meet the needs of the affected families. One girl donated her doll so other children could have one.

Livestock Meeting Draws Sixty Nine Farmers in Clermont County

W. W. Hamilton reports 69 Clermont County livestock farmers attended the annual meeting at Williamsburg school on January 22. The gathering, with representatives from all townships, focused on cattle swine and sheep, stressed not selling breeding stock, reducing debt, and operating farms toward cheaper feed and higher income per acre. Officers elected for 1948 include President Fred Matthis and Vice President Howard Fisher, with delegates named to the Cincinnati Livestock Producers organization.
