Frank W. Weaver Post American Legion members and friends gathered for the cornerstone ceremony of the new Legion home about a mile east of Batavia along Route 74. Elliott Compton led the march, with Bill Rice and Joe Letty as color bearers and guards Don Evans and Joe Greber. James Winnis laid the cornerstone as Commander A. P. Garner watched. Charles Bell supervised construction and assisted Ed Parrott with mortar, with plans to have the building ready next summer.

Milford Firemen Answer Weekend Fires in Threes
Milford Fire Department faced three weekend blazes under Chief Joseph J. Wessel. A small tenant house on R. E. Forshee Farm burned due to a suspected exploding coal stove, causing $2500 in damage. The J. C. Birkle farm building was destroyed next, amid dry flames and water shortages. Sunday morning a film reel burst ignited a rewinder booth at Rayutz Theatre, costing about $200 while patrons were evacuated and the show resumed after repairs.

Fire consumed the home of Percy Evans on Sunday near New Richmond causing about 9000 dollars in loss. Two pet dogs and all furnishings perished. The family was away visiting in Kentucky at the time of the blaze.

Miss Hattie Carpenter, an elderly Batavia resident living on North Street, was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati for observation and treatment after a fall earlier in the week. Found Tuesday by neighbor Mrs. L. W. Male unable to help herself, she refused aid until Wednesday when Dr. A. J. Mastropaolo arranged for hospital transport.
