The Maynard House, next to the dam, will receive water for the historical society. Harry Reed Appel Jr and the lockmaster at the dam are involved. The society will cover installation costs and pay a fixed annual charge for water use.

County Sets 1.8 Million Budget with Pay Hikes

Clermont County commissioners approved a 1.8 million dollar budget for the coming year, increasing it by 150000 from last year. Funds include five percent pay raises at department head discretion, with 332000 in the general fund carried over from 1971 and 68000 set aside to pay outstanding bills.

School Employee Charged In Car Theft

Darrell P. Hopkins twenty one of 650 Wood Street Batavia is charged with two counts of auto larceny and one of breaking and entering in the night season in connection with the theft of two cars Friday night from Anstaett Dodge Batavia. Police say Hopkins a janitor at Batavia school employed under the federal Emergency Employment Act took a car from the lot abandoned it in Union Township then returned to the agency and stole a second car yet to be found.

Commander Joseph C. McCoy U S Navy was awarded The Belgian Order of The Crown by Minister P W Segers in Brussels on 11 January 1972. He served as U S Naval Attache in Brussels for three years and led the Military Attache Corps in the last months. Mrs McCoy the former Kathleen Barbeau and daughters Kathy and Amy accompanied him visiting Batavia relatives en route to Washington D C.

Union Township bids on a public utility extension total nine bids with the low offer of 138252. The project will be financed partly by property assessment for the first time. The engineer estimate stood at 173000. Other bids ranged up to 246978. Potential users may reduce the cost if they sign up for service, with 90 signers reported in Clermont County.

The federal budget over 20 million includes 4.7 million for East Fork Reservoir in Clermont County and 6.4 million for Caesar's Creek project across Clinton Warren and Greene Counties. Grant Chapter of the Order of DeMolay in Amelia thanks contributors to the December canned food drive. Each year the group collects during November and December to aid needy families at Christmas. An 18 year old AWOL soldier linked to a New Richmond blaze that destroyed a pharmacy laundromat and bakery faces possible upgrade to a death related charge after 90 year old Mrs. Josephine Schutte died from smoke inhalation. John Blair of RR 1 New Richmond is jailed on a 5000 dollar bond after police say he admitted placing tinder in a wall hole while under the influence. Fireman George Peck suffered an eye injury from a hose strike during the blaze. Coroner’s findings are pending.

Owners Seek Reversal in Zoning Appeal at SR 125 Circle Freeway

Property owners at the SR 125 Circle Freeway intersection (Tabasco) ask the First Ohio District Court of Appeals to reconsider a ruling denying a zoning change from residential to commercial. The court upheld Union Township Trustees’ denial after Clermont County Common Pleas Court found the decision unreasonable and confiscatory. Goods Recovered Thieves Sought in Clermont County

Sheriff Watson and deputies recovered a truck load of tools and office equipment stolen from Bob and Harry's Garage in Fairfield. The driver and passenger left the vehicle when returned to the rental station. Police nationwide linked the case, but suspects remained at large as Fairfield officers assisted in Batavia.

Proposed Zoning Resolution Filed in Jackson Township

The Jackson Township Trustees filed a proposed zoning resolution with the Clermont County Board of Elections for the May primary ballot. The board has received 32 filings, including 28 seeking party committee posts, with a Feb. 2 deadline at 4 p.m. County Court candidates have until Aug. 9 to file. Two judgeships, including a new one, will be filled in the fall election.
