Farmers Institutes Plan Food Program in Clermont County
A series of Farmers Institutes will be held in Clermont county during February focusing on food production for wartime needs. The first institute is set for February 14 in Moscow. Bethel may occur February 15 or 17, followed by Newtonsville February 18 Goshen February 23 Williamsburg February 24 Marathon February 25. Additional institutes at Owensville Edenton and Laurel are being planned.

Ralph Homan Dies Relatives In Kentucky
Ralph Homan son of the late Joseph and Mary Homan died Monday January 24 at Methodist hospital in Pikeville Kentucky after a three week illness from a heart ailment. He was eight years store manager for Beaver Creek Coal and Mining Co Drift Kentucky. He is survived by sisters Miss Mary Homan and Mrs Belle Kain Batavia and brothers Frank Homan Canon City Colorado and Harry Homan Ashland Kentucky. Funeral services will be at Miss Mary Homan’s home Wednesday January 26 with interment Batavia Union Cemetery.

License Tags To Go On Sale Starting March
Automobile license tags for 1944 will be put on sale by the Bureau of Motor Vehicles on Wednesday March 1 and continue through March 31. Owners must display the new plate on April 1. Only one plate will be used this year and it will be blue with white letters and numerals attached to the rear. Director Sours urges salvage of 1942 1943 plates and notes WPB word on 1945 steel for one plate per car.

Justice Wiseman Receives Commission for Batavia Township

Killer Dogs Menace In Clermont County
Homeless dogs blamed for rising livestock losses in Clermont County. 1943 claims paid for killing sheep and hogs totaled 1820, more than double 1942. Livestock Committee formed a special panel to aid authorities in curbing the menace. The Dog and Kennel Fund funds the dog warden and kennel. 1944 licenses issued about 4000. George Medary serves as county warden at the Williamsburg route kennel.

Tobacco crop regulations limit 1944 Burley allotments
Burley tobacco allotments for 1944 will not be created for farms that did not grow Burley in 1939 through 1943 unless a 1944 allotment application is filed with the Clermont County AAA Committee by February 1, 1944. New 1944 allotments require the grower to have tobacco experience in the past five years and to live on the farm and depend largely on it for livelihood.

Fire Claims Two Children and Injures Mother Near Fe Sunday
A blaze at a family home near Fe Sunday evening January 23 killed two young boys Donald age two and Dale Scott age seven and left mother Mrs Whiteman seriously injured. The father and seven year old Earl were in the barn. embers in a coal range caused an explosion and burning oil covered Mrs Whiteman and the children. Mr Whiteman escaped with the others as neighbors rushed to assist. The family faced a total loss of the home and the hospital report for Mrs Whiteman was not yet available.

Cattle Perish In Big Roudebush Barn Fire
A Thursday night blaze at G. M. Roudebush’s Newtonsville farm destroyed a large barn and its contents including 21 head of Shorthorn cattle and 30 tons of hay. Neighbors saved the residence and another barn as the herd’s only survivor was one cow. loss estimated at $10,000. Roudebush, 87, a pioneer breeder of Shorthorns in Southern Ohio, has bred cattle for 62 years.
