Enthusiastic farmers gathered at the Armory last Saturday for the Clermont County Corn Show. More than 250 exhibitors showcased yellow, white, red, and mixed corn with silage for dairy feed and prizes awarded across numerous classes.
Mrs. Chas. Gillespie died January 13 in Henderson Kentucky. Funeral services were held at her residence by a Baptist minister, then moved to Nicholsville for services at Mt. Pisgah church January 17 conducted by Rev. A.E. Huntington of Manchester. Interment followed in the adjoining cemetery. Distanced mourners included John Gillespie and family of Henderson and other relatives from Tabationi L. Thrtoli Felicity W.S. Turton Mrs. Nordyke Sam Bridges Ajbury Harvey Cox and families.
The Amelia I O O F lodge announces its annual supper next Saturday night at the I O O F building. All invited for a fine time and plenty to eat. committee reports arrangements completed and no detail left undone to ensure a successful event.
The Batavia I O O F lodge reports strong Friday night attendances with new members joining in several degrees. New paraphanalia has energized the lodge, and officers were installed by Deputy Grand Master Allen Glancy with Merril Jenike noble grand Lou Devine vice grand and others named. absent officers will be installed later.
Dr. Rutledge of Owensville died last Friday on a road home from a patient visit near G Ansteatt s. He was with his wife and children when he suffered a final heart attack. Funeral was held Monday at 10 80 at Goshen cemetery and he leaves a widow and children. He served the Masonic order and had a wide practice. He was 52.
The list notes 2015 holidays: Saint Valentine on February 14 Sunday, Easter Sunday April 4, Palm Sunday March 28 with Lent starting February 17, Decoration Day May 30 Sunday, Fourth of July, Thanksgiving November 25, and Christmas on Saturday December 25.
On February 16 citizens will vote on a $300000 bond to buy land and build a courthouse and jail after the old jail was condemned. The large tax rise is noted and prior county improvements failed by a wide margin, shaping this decision for the next generation.

The January 19, 1915 report shows horses 910000 valued at 128 dollars per head, mules 24000 at 127, milch cows 895000 at 60, other cattle 838000 at 84.60, sheep 8263000 at 4.70, swine 8640000 at 11.20. It notes 1910 had the same horse count with more cows and sheep.
Growers complain of low tobacco prices this season with early sellers getting around 10 cents while current offers hover near seven cents. Other farm products like corn and hogs remain strong, and neighboring states discuss cutting tobacco next year. Ohio's stance is unclear.
The Country Club of farm women hosted a January 1 oyster supper for husbands and families with Mrs. John Foster as hostess. L Turnipseed, once with New Richmond schools and two years ago named assistant superintendent at the Delaware Boys Industrial School, has been reappointed under the current administration by the civil service system. He is praised as a fine instructor who connects well with the youths and has many Clermont friends offering congratulations.
Clinton county remains partly under quarantine for foot and mouth disease. A northeastern farm killed and buried 48 cattle 105 hogs and 10 sheep last week. Government and State pay for all animals killed. Clermont reported no cases.
About 20 saloons in Maysville were ordered to close by Monday night January 11 awaiting the Court of Appeals decision. Patrons faced vacant bars though stocks remained full and on hand.
Governor Willis will issue a proclamation on February 16 naming April 9 Arbor Day in Ohio. Schools and families are urged to plant a tree to mark the occasion.
Mary M. Coggeshall, Ohio’s first state librarian and former journalist and author, died at her son in law Mayor T A Bushey’s home in South Vienna on Tuesday January 19 of senility. She would have turned 89 March 21 and was a Vermont native.
The Woman's Club plans a Saturday gathering at 2:30 p m with Guest day featuring a program on modern fiction. Topics include The Realistic Short Story and authors such as Margaret Deland Zona Gale and Mary Wilkins. Music will be provided by Mrs McDonald as hostess.
Hiram Cade was pleasantly surprised last Friday night by his family and a few friends in honor of his birthday. The gathering was a very pleasant evening for all who attended.
J C Dale laments heavy road losses in Clermont County and slow progress to better roads. He notes Congress and state bills but few aiding farmers, questions December January timing for projects, mentions a 650 million bond issue, and urges funding from reliable sources with honest spending.
The K of P lodge at Ban Tam rapidly expands with eight candidates elevated to Knight rank by the Bethel team. A celebratory feast followed the ceremony, marking the lodge as one of the county’s most prosperous.
