Give Men On Relief More Work At Higher Pay Rate

County Welfare Director Wayne Oney urged county commissioners to expand the relief work program. He said current limits force men to work off relief at six dollars daily and fail to allow job hunting time. He proposed courthouse cleanup work under janitors and noted underutilization. Oney said vouchers can be diverted for different needs but warned neglect could trigger court action.

West Point graduate dies in Germany air crash

Milford mourns Lt. John H. Veidt Jr., 23, a top West Point graduate who died when the aircraft he rode in crashed near Nuremberg during night maneuvers. Survived by his widow Mary B., parents John and wife, and siblings Robert and Marilyn. Funeral plans incomplete.

Fines Bail Village Out Of Deficit

Fines and costs in 1960 helped New Richland balance the village budget. Deficit started at 3236 dollars and ended with all bills paid and a small balance. Mayor Arch Wrigglesworth credits Police Chief Herman Reid and strict enforcement for most funds, with monthly fines near 1000 dollars.

Board OKs Chile Incorporation by Clermont County

Clermont County commissioners granted permission for Chile to become the county’s 13th incorporated village. The action must be certified and remain with the county recorder for six days to allow possible lawsuits. If no suits are filed, Chile will be incorporated. 80 residents signed the petition, with 52 opposing.

County to fund Neville Penn Schoolhouse and Fruit Rd rebuild

County commissioners were told the state will proceed with rebuilding Neville Penn Schoolhouse Road and Fruit Road from Route 756 to the Felicity Nike Missile Base. The project cost estimate was $168,950, with the county asked to cover the difference beyond the $15,000 already paid, a sum the commission said it cannot exceed.

They added Jer-Les Dr David Court and Bobby Court to county system and requested Miami trustees inspect Colonial Drive. Also approved one year use for Morning Side Circle Heatherstone Way Briar Hill Drive Briar Hill Circle and Broadview Place in Mulberry Ridge subdivision.

Summerside Civic Association Seeks Road Improvements

The Summerside Civic Association petitioned county commissioners to improve Klatte Rd from Summerside Rd to the new Summerside Estates section. It seeks straightening a culvert, raising grades, grading high spots, and a 50 ft right of way. James Childress is president and June Kline secretary.

Services held for Ernest E Barnett in Mount Holly

Ernest E Barnett aged 36 of Cincinnati died from a self inflicted 16 gauge shotgun wound at his sister Clara Anderson’s Lindale Mount Holly Road home. Services were held this week in St Ky with burial at Our Lady of Mercy Hospital life squad ambulance transported him after he arrived in critical condition. Barnett had lived with the Anderson family for about six weeks.

Education Board Re-elects Little and Approves Budget

Clermont County board reorganized for 1961 naming R. G. Litle president for the fourth year and Elmer Kramer vice president. Regular meetings set for the second of each month at 9 30. Annual appropriation totals cover salaries of county superintendent 8600.00 salaries and mileage of supervisors 5305.00 salaries of secretaries 6350.00 and other expenses totaling 114 235.28.
