4-H Council seeks funds for Clarksville pool project

Clermont County 4 H Council led by Herbert LaForge coordinates a county wide drive to raise 7500 dollars for a 35 by 75 foot swimming pool at the 4 H camp near Clarksville. Montgomery Warren Hamilton and Clermont counties share the effort with 800 campers last summer fueling support. Solicitation starts Feb 11 with 10000 pledge cards and township chairman drives to cover the county.

Batavia Business Group Has New Leaders and Plans

Gene Gordon heads Batavia Businessmen's Association as president, with Al Wolfe as secretary and Howard Bissantz as treasurer. Kenneth Anstaett previously served as treasurer. Mayor Paschal praised local police and urged mail delivery staff numbering. The group will send William Parsons to Columbus for an Ohio clinic. Also two Afton residents, Raymond Newell and David Hofer, are jailed on juvenile delinquency charges.

Zoning Panel Receives Hill & Associates Proposal

Union township zoning chairman Dean Taylor announced Monday night receipt of a proposal from Carroll V. Hill & Associates, planning consultant, for review by the Zoning Commission.

North Union Fire Group elects chief and buys land

The North Union Township Volunteer Fire Department elected Ray Riggs as chief and Russ Epeards as assistant chief at its January meeting. The group has begun zoning and long term planning for a fire house site, purchasing about seven-eighths of an acre from Joseph Plum on Route 74 in Summerside, with options for future expansion. A zoning plan costing about 4500 dollars is to be prepared, with a May primary election unlikely for completion.

Presbytery May Revive Church At Mt. Carmel

The Mt. Carmel Church building once used as scout headquarters may be rebuilt and reopened as a church. After examining the property the Cincinnati Presbytery Board of Church Extension believes repairs and remodeling could be feasible if sufficient membership justifies it. A community survey is planned to assess need for service and worship among our denomination’s communicants and unaffiliated residents.

County Board Probes Court House Space and Lease Options

Republican county commissioners pursue a study of overcrowded conditions at the court house and consider leasing county or nearby private property for a health board space. The effort includes inviting Democratic member Charles Clark to support the study and address lease discussions while seeking bids and 30 day notices from lessees.

Pomona Grange Meets Saturday in Mt. Carmel

Pomona Grange No. 27 will hold an all day meeting at Mt. Carmel starting 10 am Saturday January 28 in Clermont County. A noon basket dinner follows. Grange Youth Day with invitations for all youths and fourth degree members. 1955 prince and princess and one county delegate to speak. Carl Bickel presides. John D. Capenter nominated as alternate to the Naval Academy at Annapolis by Congressman James G. Polk.

Clermont Plumbers Push for County Licensing Plan

Clermont County Plumbers Association organized with 23 members from a 60 member group. Officer slate includes Matt Storch president, Allen Chandler Jr vice president, Ray Elion secretary, Elton Kennedy treasurer. Storch urged licensing to protect homeowners and allow boards to correct defects. County officials urged to establish licensing as other Ohio counties have.
