Ohio road federation elects Hayden Rush to 1938 trustees

John J. Hayden Clermont County State Representative and Ohio Survey Committee member and Carl E xusa Clermont County Engineer were named to The Ohio Good Roads Federation for 1938. W A Alsdorf, Executive Secretary, invites Rush to accept trusteeship. The federation backs roads funding and warns against tax diversions. In Owensville the Farmers Institute saluted Perry Groves for fifteen years as treasurer with 75 sessions attended.

Grange Conference Holds Fifth Session at Wilmington

Grange members met in Wilmington Clinton county for the fifth of seven January conferences. All departments were discussed including Legislation Home Economics Life Property and Auto Insurance Cooperation Juvenile work Publicity and Membership with lectures and breaks for recreation. Strong turnout with Clermont county sending 28 attendees.

Ripley tobacco market sales expected to top six million pounds

Indications point to season total on the Ripley tobacco market surpassing 6,000,000 lb before Thursday January 27. Last week 998,206 lb sold for $155,109.45 as warehousemen promise farmers an early sale with no need to register loads and possible rapid action toward a closing date extending two weeks.

Batavia Robberies Hit Local Stores Monday Night

Police report two incidents Monday night in Batavia. Burglars entered a filling station by a rear window and stole tires, spark plugs, fog lights, and $20. At the Kroger store, the entire cigarette stock and other goods were taken. No clues available.

Bethel Board Wins Case in Ohio Supreme Court

The Bethel-Tate school consolidation case, appealed by the Tax League led by Chas. Rapp and Lee Leonard, was rejected by the Ohio Supreme Court, upholding lower court rulings. Clermont Trustees and Clerks Meet for State Association Push

Some 50 members of the Clermont County Association of Township Trustees and Clerks met in the courthouse conference room. W O Ferree presided as president. Joseph Thomas, president of the State Association, urged strong township government and resistance to centralization as members filled out about 76 percent of cards and planned to attend the State Association’s 10th annual convention in Columbus January 27 29.

George W Huntington Burial Arrangements Noted

George W Huntington 86 died last Thursday at his Amelia home. He was buried Sunday at 2 pm from Moore Fuverel Home Batavia with interment at Mt Moriah. Survived by a widow and three sons Jobo cashier of 1st National Bank Batavia Bert of Amelia Allan of Florida. He belonged to M E church and Masonic lodge.

No License Issued in Clermont County Probate Court

For the first time in years, no marriage license was issued last week in Clermont County Probate Court. Court staff verified the quiet week after three weeks of many applicants, with unclear causes cited.

Clermont County to Get Big Dam Project

Clermont County will gain a flood control dam system in the Elk Lick area following a Washington approval of a 6.5 million Flood Relief appropriation for the Little Miami Conservancy District. Plans call for two dams near Caesar Creek and one near Batavia on the East Fork. construction begins next spring and spans about two years.

Fifth Annual President's Ball Planned in Batavia

Batavia hosts the fifth Annual President's Ball at the Armory on Saturday January 29 with 8 30 pm floor show by The Drifting Pioneers and 9 pm dancing to The Campus Owls Miami University orchestra. A Queen will be chosen by popular vote from unmarried Clermont county residents. Tickets are selling above par as county residents plan to attend.

The Batavia M E Church invites worshippers to a dedicatory service for its new Hammond organ presented in memory of Andrew Wolf. George and Augustus Wolf and Miss Rosa Wolf funded the gift. Republican Meeting At Court House In Batavia Area

The Republican meeting held last Thursday night at the court house drew a large attendance and good talks. John Hayden presided with Frank Bonham, mayor of Wyoming, as speaker. Judge Simon Ross attended and spoke briefly. The next meeting is set for the third Thursday in February at the Batavia armory. Bruce Daughters of Felicity was endorsed for county election board member.

Clermont County Relief Projects Put 150 to Work

About 150 Clermont Countians were employed on two southern county road projects funded by $20,000 in surplus relief funds secured by State Senator Harold Nichols and Lt Governor Paul Yoder.
