Billie Wilson Wins Queen Title at Presidents Ball in Batavia Armory

The Presidents Ball drew over 600 attendees, with Billie Wilson winning the Queen title by 121 votes among 10 contestants. Other candidates included Alice May 89 and Mary White 65. Music by Campus Owls and Hill Billies, decorations praised, and S L Larkin led the event.

Music Art Festival at Mt Carmel School House

A festival of music and art will be presented at Mt Carmel school house Friday evening at 8 30. Program features more than 50 school children singers with elaborate stage and a transparent screen lighting effect. Music by the PTA quartet with solos by Mrs W McBride and Jas Callahan. Elementary and high school pupils 10c adults 25c. Sponsored by the PTA.

Rep Hayden Delivers Seven Thousand Six Hundred Twenty-One Dollar Check

Rep. John Hayden arrived in Batavia from the Auditor of State with a 7621.90 check designated for Poor Relief. The fund comes under amended House Bill 744 and will support the Selective Sales Tax Poor Relief Bond Fund. Hayden backed Amended House Bill 764 to speed aid for about twenty thousand elderly in Ohio. The bill passed the House and goes to the Senate for approval.

Amelia Teams Win Big Over Owensville Fight Night

Amelia boys defeated Owensville 83 to 11 and Amelia girls won 50 to 22 at Owensville last Friday. The teams host Williamsburg at Amelia Friday night for the final home game of the year.

Russia Lecture At Batavia Woman's Club Meeting

The Batavia Woman's Club invites the public to an open meeting at the Presbyterian church Thursday at 8 PM. Dr. C. B. Rich of Avondale Presbyterian will discuss Russia from his observations after months in Germany and Russia with the Dr. Sherwood Eddy study group. Car Crashes Through Wall At Bethel Music Dealer

Bethel Music dealer H. B. Hutson was startled when a 1937 Willys driven by L. W. Adams plowed into the brick wall of his showroom around 8 P M. Adams misjudged the brake causing the impact. no injuries were reported and the car suffered only minor damage. Insurance will cover the damage.

State Patrol to Administer Drivers Examinations

A State Highway Patrol representative will conduct drivers examinations on Saturday February 19 from 12 noon to 2 PM at the Citizens' Garage in Batavia.

Clermont county tax office reports 96 per cent delinquent collections

The Clermont County Delinquent Tax Commission released a semi final report showing approximately 96 percent collection on $8,003 in delinquent personal and classified taxes. Real estate delinquencies, though larger, are being reduced with plans to finish by March 31. Mrs. T L Mefford and Marc Chandler named investigators as workload grows.

E J Manning Dies Monday Bethel Grocer

Elmer J. Manning 57 a Bethel grocer for nearly two decades died suddenly Monday after lunch from a heart attack. Born 1880 on a southern farm he built Bethel's Laneet grocery business on Plane Street after 1917. Survived by wife Venus two children George and Helen and brothers E C Manning and Sam J Manning. Conservation plans to be discussed at Lebanon meeting

The 1938 Agricultural Conservation Program will be announced and studied at a district meeting in Lebanon on February 10 and 11. E C Saxton leads the local Conservation Association with State Board members in attendance. County Agent Roy Battles, Byron Ross, and Carney Roush will also attend. Local meetings will follow in each township to explain the program to farmers.

Orpheus Club to Give 72nd Concert in Taft Hall

The Orpheus Club plans its 72nd concert in Taft auditorium on Thursday night February 10. The program includes Kentucky mountain songs Hebridean Island songs and sacred numbers with a celebrated soloist. Directed by Dr. Thomas James Kelly the Cincinnati Mens Glee Club has about 125 members including Clermont county members Brice Henderson Batavia G L Smith Williamsburg Russell Althaus Bethel and Hugh Lanham Felicity. Former Batavian Dies in Springfield

George W. Strimple a former Batavian died at his daughter Mrs Walter McDaniel home in Springfield Ohio on Saturday January 29 in his eighty seventh year Funeral services were held there Monday He was a long time resident away from Batavia and visited relatives in old home county last summer He is survived by a son and two daughters in Springfield one daughter in Chicago and a brother and sister J W Strimple and Mrs Amanda McLees of Withamsville

Dog Licenses Rise in Clermont County under Medary Plan

G P Medary Clermont county Dog Warden reports 4200 licenses bought by January 20 up from 2700 last year. About 900 stray dogs disposed of reducing animal claims payments by $500. License sales continue in the county Auditor's office with a small penalty after March 31.

Eastern Stars School of Instruction Hosts District 22

Batavia Chapter hosted the 22nd district School of Instruction with 23 chapters, state and district officers in attendance. Mrs. Mabel Miller opened sessions, luncheon followed for about 250 guests, and Lucasville Chapter led afternoon ritual work under Deputy Grand Matron Gladys Spriggs. Next year’s meeting will be in Milford with officers Gladys Spriggs, Louise Caskey, Minnie Bullock.
