County keeps standard hours. no 4:30 pm extension

County and department heads rejected a 4:30 pm extension proposed to match the commissioners. Offices will stay open weekdays from 9 am to 4 pm with Saturday noon close. Some staff may work past 4 pm not changing official hours. Arthur Blake proposed the longer day to avoid hiring new staff amid a deficit.

AmELIA Wiley M Mil ner 70 of 87 E Main St ing in critical condition after being struck by a car Thursday evening while crossing a street in Amelia City. His daughter-in-law says injuries include a crushed left leg and a brain blood clot. he remained unconscious until Monday. He had traveled with friends to St. Petersburg then visited other areas after staying in Lake Worth.

Openings Exist In Some West Clermont Adult Classes

Late registration is accepted for West Clermont adult education courses starting January 28 and January 20. Enroll this week or first class night. Several Wednesday offerings meet minimum, including typing and driver training. Some sessions need more enrollees. others are canceled for lack of students. Assistant Attorneys General Named Here

Two successors have been named to the Ohio Assistant Attorney General post vacated Jan 1 when Judge John D Erhardt resigned. New Attorney General William Saxbe redistricted the area and named Charles Brown of Portsmouth to handle Clermont and other counties to Scioto, while Nan Gardner of Cincinnati will cover Hamilton and Butler Counties. It is not known who will serve Warren County.

Unit Needs $1,000 For TB Program

At the Goshen PTA January meeting about 50 adults were given the Heat Test by the Clermont County Tuberculosis and Health Association as part of the county TB program. Funded by the Christmas Seal sale, the effort is $1,000 short of the minimum to run an adequate case finding program. The sale brought in 764.35 with $6,878.09 in by Jan 22, 1963, though higher postal rates may cut the total. Executive secretary Stirling Moore urged residents to respond to Christmas Seal letters mailed in late 1962.

Former Democrat Leader to Work on South American Projects

Charles A. Colonel and his wife Eva and son Jay will relocate from New Richmond to Paramaribo Surinam for three years. Their older son Douglas will attend college in North Carolina. They departed January 14 for the Beckopondo and Suralo power plant construction assignments. Colonel, an ironworker, is a former Clermont County Democratic party leader and past commander of the John Farina American Legion post.

Officials Inspect Road Crossings Over Maple Creek

County commissioners and township trustees surveyed three crossings in Maple Creek township Washington. They considered potential new construction to ease marooned families during floods and recognized a 14 ft wide span and a 42 ft span for possible use at a crossing.

Ten Mile Crash Kills 1 Injures 2 Passengers

A two-vehicle crash on Ten Mile Road killed Andrew Fouch 28 of Martin Place and injured Homer Estenp 20 and Fill Hunt 23. Fouch died at the scene, Estenp was taken to Bethesta Hospital with back and head injuries, Hunt received cuts at the scene. A Batavia resident’s house at 95 S Fourth St sustained $600 damage from a car that rammed it.

Science Students To Hear Telestar Satellite Talk

About 400 high school science students from Clement County and nearby areas will attend an afternoon session at the University of Cincinnati Chemistry Building on January 29 to hear Robert Lowell of Bell Telephone Laboratories discuss the challenges engineers faced in Telstar the Bell System's experimental communications satellite launched July 10. Three top students from each school will be chosen to attend, with sponsorship by the Cincinnati PA Loop Perl Telephone Co as part of its curator program.

Reading Confab Attracts Eighty In Batavia

A reading conference drawn by eighty attendees was held at Batavia school on January 18. County teachers and staff discussed current reading trends led by Wes Ruth Hudson from the Department of Education. Principals Hear Juvenile Judges in January Meeting

The Clermont County Principals Association hosted Judge Benjamin Schwartz of Hamilton County and Judge Orville Halbisch of Clermont County at Batavia Methodist Church. Board Re-elects 2 In Reorganization

Clermont County board of education held a reorganizing session on Saturday January 19 at the County Superintendent Harry R. Moore office. Dr Charles M Simmons was re elected president and Stanley Cann was re elected vice president. Other members J A Ashton R G Little and Harry Kahle served on the board. The board also approved the 1963 appropriation.
