A 20 week TV series Operation Alphabet begins Feb 4 to help 61 000 functional illiterates in Cincinnati and surrounding areas learn reading and writing. WCPO TV Channel 9 airs 7 to 730 a m Monday through Friday as a public service. The effort is co sponsored by the community.
Cincinnati Public Schools WCPO-TV and the Community Health and Welfare Council unite for Operation Alphabet to combat illiteracy. The program urges citizens in Ohio Kentucky Indiana to help and directs viewers to adult education resources with seven tuition-free adult elementary schools in Cincinnati.
Clermont County committee urges routing the Circle Freeway mainly through Clermont rather than Anderson township to aid industrial development. Carl W. Bernges leads plans to petition legislators for an early Nine Mile Road start, with John E. Wilson and James Bringard active in supporting expedited construction and regional growth.
The Clermont County PTA Council meets January 28 at Bethel Elementary to hear and discuss urgent needs of Clermont County Schools. Christine Ireton invites all citizens to attend. Dorothy Schuester says questions about schools or their operation will be discussed. Mike's Place in Williams Corner to close from noon January 28 until delinquent sales tax assessment is paid, per the Ohio Board of Liquor Control.
The Ohio School Boards Association trustees examine sales income and personal tax proposals that could raise 78.4 to 370 million annually. They will present options to the 105th General Assembly and host seminars statewide to inform citizens and lawmakers.
Paul M. Nobis of New Richmond won a 30000 verdict against Cincinnati Gas and Electric in Clermont County Common Pleas Court. He sought 125000 after suffering burns from a high tension wire incident in March 1961 on his parents property. Nobis was hospitalized over a year. Attorneys listed for Nobis and CGE.
Solomine and Anstaett high schools compete at Tepe s Batavia Bowl on January 15 in the Tuesday Nite Merchants and Masons League led by Jerry Solomine with a 561 series Tom Anstaett posted a high single of 216 Graser Wolfe team member also noted in the standings The men s Honor Roll lists Solomine 561 213 Anstaett 559 216 Hodges 556 204 Spurlock 552 and others with scores ranging from 500 to 545.
Billie Virgil Davis nine year old son of Mr and Mrs Virgil Davis Rt 222 suffered a left leg fracture Friday morning when a car hit him as he darted across Rt 222 near Rt 125 to catch a school bus. He was taken to Brown County Hospital Georgetown. Betty J Lamons 26 of 3527 Ohio 222 driver of the accident car was not cited. Witnesses told Deputy Sheriff Ankrom they saw the boy run in front of the car.
The Eleventh Annual Trade Fair of Junior Achievement of Greater Cincinnati will run February 9 and 10 at Xavier University Armory. Admission is free with public hours 1 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Forty six JA companies will display products and door prizes will be awarded.

A chapter meeting January 12 included a program on American Indians by Mrs. Lipps and the 1963 budget was presented adopted.
Maur ice Murray was named director of advertising for Albee Homes Inc. The Clermont County maker of precision pre cut homes operates sales offices in 52 cities across 11 states. Murray will coordinate national and local campaigns with an expected annual ad budget near one million dollars.
Common Pleas Judge M. Dale Osborne installed new officers for the Clinton County Women’s Democratic Club. Frances Osborne is president with Mary Barker first vice president, Betty Turner second vice president, Evelyn Jackson treasurer, Mae Reynolds recording secretary, Jean Trapp corresponding secretary, Louise Arnold historian, Alma Leever parliamentarian, and Ethel Washburn chaplain.

Youth Week services at the Amelia Church of the Nazarene run January 27 to February 3 at 730 p.m. Rev Merrell E Dewey and family from Cincinnati headline as evangelists and singers. Mrs Dewey is a musician and singer. Beverly Dewey joins nightly with the couple. Amelia High School Glee Club conducted by Robert Ketcham will sing one evening. Youth community members invited by Charlotte Periington and Pastor L Harbold.
MT CARMEL three robbers aged 18 to 23 bound four Thriftway Supermarket employees and took 200 dollars. They entered through a rear door as staff stocked shelves and tied workers with elastic bands before fleeing. Employees freed themselves in five minutes to summon police. Deputy Sheriff Richard Carson investigated.
Renowned artist William J. Schickel will give three lectures at Grailville Loveland on Friday Saturday and Sunday as part of The Humanities in the Technological Era program. He is noted for liturgical art and stained glass works across multiple states and is a Notre Dame graduate and Benedictine fellow. Nearby college students from Antioch Marion College will attend.
County commissioners influenced by H Harlan Mace water systems manager seek to block Southern Ohio Utility Company from buying water for resale in Withamsville. The plan would let the utility operate the sewage disposal plant for the subdivision and jeopardize about 10000 dollars yearly revenue if wholesale water sales proceed.
Clermont County Life Squad and Rescue Association will meet at the Batavia Life Squad Building at 8 p.m. January 28. President Jim Hitch outlines topics including voting rights on life squad support, education program at next general assembly, weekly run summaries for publication, and a mutual agreement contract among all life squads.
County commissioners reversed plans to dismiss Inspector C. O. Mattox and Alfred Ginn after the prosecutor's office ruled Civil Service protections apply. Elmer Bailey of Goshéi was named Mattox’s replacement. They also terminated Robert Preble, assistant building inspector, as of Jan 31 after rehiring for a year, citing workload limits.
The Clermont Northeastern board of education reorganized Monday January 7 naming Howard Watkins of Pleasant Plain as president. William Bishop of Batavia was elected vice president. Other board members are John W. Smith Sr., E. Edman, Alley R. Tussey, all of Batavia. Rosemary Lehrer of Owensville is clerk. Regular meetings are set for the second Monday each month at 7 30 p m in various schools with a yearly schedule.
