Farmers Union adopts six resolutions at Jan meeting

President John H. Armleder of Batavia reports six resolutions adopted by the Farmers Union on January 8. The proposals include parity of income for price supports, fixed prices for wheat corn and milk, lower township insurance costs with volunteer fire units, state milk testing, opposition to redistricting, hardship from Clermont property reevaluation, and corn allotment alignment with wheat and tobacco. A Feb 5 meeting is announced at 8 p.m. in the Williamsburg Community Building.

Union County Auditor Seeks Caution On Valuation Changes

Union County Auditor Earle B. Kincaid told taxpayers not to worry about property revaluation raises until final. He said tax increases will align with valuation changes but not necessarily in exact proportion. With a current $107 million valuation and a three mill rate, he expects little change in total bills and plans reductions where possible.

Kiwanis To Hear Water Discussion In Owensville

Owensville Kiwanis guest speakers Gordon Gillette and Jack H. Fuller will discuss problems in the Miami Township water system and potential tie ins with the PUB Water District. About 400 residents have expressed interest in a local water system as talks continue. A new speaker date for Hal Newhouser was set for a later time. A film on solar power was shown by Ralph Sovereign. Five members were sent to the 8th Division Council meeting in Milford. County commissioners bonded Elzie Flora as county dog warden for 500 dollars.

Ed Smith Elected President Of Clermont County Builders

Ed Smith of Milford was elected president of the Clermont County Association of Home Builders on January 2 at Kettler's Cottage in Summerside. Ralph Murphy of Batavia was named vice president and Eugene T. Honaker of Amelia, secretary treasurer. Inspector Manly Hill reported 1141 new building permits and 613 remodeling permits, while safety features of warm air furnaces were discussed.

Probationer Receives 1 to 15 Year Ohio Penitentiary Sentence

Charles Craig 19 of Felicity is sentenced by Judge Harry Britton to one to fifteen years in the Ohio Penitentiary. Craig, on probationless under five years, was arrested for breaking into a Slaughterhouse in Felicity.

Physicist Joins Bendix Aviation

Frederick E. Fay of Batavia joins the Cincinnati division Bendix Aviation Corporation as a staff physicist. A Xavier University 1957 graduate with Notre Dame 1950 master in physics, he will aid in nuclear instruments and process control systems development. He previously worked at U.S. Rubber Mishawaka and Baldwin Piano. Fay joins a $100 million yearly engineering program with over 10 000 in Bendix divisions. He is an American Physical Society member.

Thompson Receives Five Year Contract Extension

At the Batavia meeting on January 19 the county board of education approved a new five year contract for Roy Thompson superintendent effective August 1 1957 the third in his tenure Salary is eight thousand dollars per year The board also granted L G House a new three year contract as high school supervisor effective September 1 1957 An appropriation of forty two thousand seven hundred dollars for 1957 was approved including twenty thousand for salaries of supervisors three thousand for the clerk and one thousand two hundred for the attendance officer Five parcels were transferred from Amelia Union to Batavia district and three parcels shifted from Monroe to Beth El Tate properties.
