Highway Improvements: Clermont County gains over $1.3 million
A 1956 review shows Clermont County's state highway program spending 1 303 655 dollars on two new bridges six new culverts and 34 miles resurfacing. Bridges on Route 132 were completed and under construction, with multiple relocations and culverts on Routes 133 749 743 132 727 and 74 plus highway resurfacing contracts.

Burglaries and Robbery Attempt Reported in Local Area
Two burglaries and an attempted robbery were reported this week to Sheriff Clyde B. Dericks. Money was taken from Clinger's service station at Felicity and thieves also broke in at Cavanaugh Motors at Bethel. An attempt was made to enter Monjar's service station in West Bethel. Deputy Charles McNutt investigated.

Woman Jailed On Forgery Charge
Mrs. Elizabeth Tolliver, 38, of Bethel Route 3, jailed on forgery after pleading guilty before Mayor Paschal. She raised a $10 aid voucher to $15, allegedly to help feed her ill husband, charged by county veterans service officer James Griffith. Bond set at $500.

Settlement Reached In Crewman Death On Tug Murphy
The J. T. Murphy River Transportation Co. agreed to pay a settlement for the death of William Boshears, a crewman on the tugboat Pat Murphy, who drowned June 1, 1955. The company denied liability but offered to settle for $5,200. After expenses and attorney fees, widow Lizzie Boshears is expected to receive $2,889.

Frame Home Lost In Sunday Blaze
A one and a half story frame home owned by Harry Fisher on Tanor Lane near MT. HOLLY was completely destroyed by a Sunday fire around 4 p.m. Fire Chief Clifford Evanshine said the house appears to have been burning for some time before discovery by a neighbor. Two wells and a cistern were emptied and water was supplied by a Bethel Fire Department tank truck. The Fisher family was away at the time.

Williamsburg Man Faces Eight Charges Across Two Counties
Walter Mc Clain of Williamsburg will be returned to Hillsboro to answer four charges after serving a $130 and costs sentence. He was convicted on two counts of reckless operation and two of resisting arrest. A separate untaxed liquor possession charge was not presented. The case stems from a state patrol chase near Waverly following his escape from Highland County police. Mc Clain, 52, also faces a parole violation for trespassing resisting arrest and leaving the scene of an accident when returned to Hillsboro. He was arrested last weekend with Ralph Burns on a trespassing count near Marshall after fleeing from Constable F. S. Ross, who fired two shots during the chase.

National Merit finalists include local seniors
Two area high school seniors were among 7500 finalists in the 1957 National Merit Scholarship competition. Dorothy J. Carr of Milford and James F. Sentence Of 120 Years Imposed On Amelia Resident
Carl Young, 42, of Amelia, was sentenced to one to 20 years by Judge Harry Britton in Common Pleas Court on a forgery charge while on probation.
