County teachers gain from three day art workshop

Clermont County schools conducted a January art workshop at Batavia Methodist Church led by Betty Ohirogge Dobbs. Forty eight teachers supervisors and administrators earned certificates for their participation listing recipients by district including Batavia Bethel Tate Clermont Northeast West Clermont Goshen Williamsburg and County Office among others.

North Union Fire Dept reports 82 calls and $20,047 loss

North Union Fire Department answered 82 fire calls in 1963 with $20,047 property loss and 1620 man hours. Eight house fires caused $17,070 in losses plus various other incidents. one fatality noted. Life Squad logged 13 83 man hours aiding 262 victims over 6,026 miles. Hospitals listed and Batavia Star to sponsor Jan 24 fish fry at Masonic Hall 6 to 9 p.m.

Legion Dinner Dance Set At Batavia Post Home

Robert Rice and Tony Bianchi invite the public to the Frank W. Weaver Post No. 237 Legion dinner dance at the post home one mile east of Batavia on Rt. 32. The event starts with a 6 30 cocktail hour followed by a steak dinner and dancing to Bill Weimer from 9 30 p.m. to 1 30 a.m. Admission covers all. Door prizes donated by local merchants. Thieves Strike Sears Sales and Rentals Twice

Two thefts occurred at Sears Sales and Rentals in Cherry Grove last week. Thieves lifted American Express money orders totaling 2600 dollars, 50 dollars in cash, and a beer carton on Tuesday night, then returned Wednesday for 1000 dollars in money orders, a stamp, and four dollars in change. Constable Franklin Gillman notes a possible hiding place in the store. Deputies released three teens to Clermont County due to lack of evidence.

Knause Named Pierce Township Board Chairman

Locust Corner Archer Knause is the new chairman and Mrs Martha Nord is vice chair of the Pierce Township Board of Trustees. Constable Randall Mell kept at 5400 yearly with uniforms car and expenses. Road foreman Francis Haas gets 5 percent raise to 2.10 hourly. Carl Nelp seeks full time and 50 cent raise but resigns on failure. Frank Cann zoning inspector retained at 2600 yearly. Batavia Life Squad records 523 emergency runs in three years

Captain David R. Hill reports Batavia Life Squad Inc. logged 523 emergency runs over three years with 188 in 1963, 177 in 1962, and 158 in 1961. Runs split by weather and causes, with hospital destinations listed and first aid training classes announced at the Batavia firehouse starting Jan 28.

Cann Re elected Chairman of Union Township Board

Stanley F. Cann was re elected chairman of the Union Township Board of Trustees and Elmo Durbin was named vice chairman at the organizational meeting Jan. 2. Thomas Clepper is the third member and Lois J. Donnellon is the new board clerk. Regular meetings are the second and fourth Saturday at 1 p.m. in the township hall on Williamsville Glen Este Rd. Meetings are open to the public.

Commissioners Reminded Of Broad Fund Control Power

Earl Serbu state examiner told the county commissioners that elected officials are not fully under their budget control. He urged transparency in apportionment, noting salaries and employee costs are major budget items and some offices are largely out of commissioners jurisdiction. He praised recent efforts to hold expenses and keep a sound financial base.

Man Held On Wife Beating Complaint

Cherry Grove resident John Ammerman, 37, was held in the county jail on assault and battery and resisting arrest after allegedly beating his wife Betty and threatening officers. police used tear gas, but the two year old child’s safety halted immediate action. Ammerman surrendered at 2 30 am with a pistol found in the home. Bond set at 500 on each count.
