Don Evans, Batavia businessman, recruits entrants for a beard and mustache contest linked to the 150th birthday celebration. Three Youths Escape Detention Then Are Apprehended
Three youths escaped from detention by sawing through bars and a door in the probate and juvenile court offices on Tuesday night. They fled in a stolen car owned by Lester Mallwood and abandoned it at the Rt 125 and 222 corner after it ran out of gas. Randall Mell, Pierce township constable, captured them around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday as they walked toward Amelia, following a house-to-house search by multiple police departments.
