Carson chosen by GOP to serve on election board

Randy Carson 32 finance chairman of the Clermont County Republican Party was appointed to the Board of Election replacing Harold Adams. Carson plans leadership changes to involve younger people and establish grass roots support. He takes office March 1 after winning a six to three vote over Adams. Carson has served on the county education board and in various civic groups and campaigns. He aims to raise at least $10,000 in party funds this year.

Happy Hollow sewer station may expose county to action

Richard Carlton of the Ohio EPA urged Clermont County to hire a consulting engineer to study options for the Happy Hollow Sewage Pumping Station after it bypassed about nine million gallons into Happy Hollow Creek. The bypass, an unauthorized discharge, could trigger enforcement under Chapter 6111. The station, east of Milford along St. Rt. 28, serves the business district, trailers, and nearby residences.

Salt shortage looms for Elton Hutchinson County roads

Deputy Engineer Elton Hutchinson warns the county is near salt exhaustion with 150 tons left and 5 450 tons already spread. A 1 400 ton on order may take time due to high demand from heavy snow. Only hills curves and intersections are salted to conserve what remains while 11 plow trucks and 12 salt spreaders operate with about 24 drivers and an equal number of shotgun riders.

Superintendent James Gibson warned further days would require summer makeup days, with one day left. Area superintendents did not discuss energy shortages, and most students welcomed short breaks with outdoor winter activities.
