Amelia Cage Quintets To Entertain Owensville

Amelia hosts Owensville in Clermont County High School basketball Friday at 7:30 pm. Loveland battles Amelia Tuesday with similar timing. Goshen swept two games from Amelia. Ted Hyser was sidelined by illness. Shepherd and Sterling led the offense. An exhibition by seventh and eighth graders occurred at halftime. Mayors Court Fines For Drunk Driving and Speeding

In Batavia Mayor A Munden’s court Ralph Bischoff and Arston Branscum were fined 200 dollars plus costs with 100 dollars suspended for driving while intoxicated. Albert Weinberg, brought by the Highway Patrol, was fined 10 dollars plus costs. Since January 5 there have been 20 citations to appear, 12 for speeding. Cheerleaders Meehan Snyder and Shumate received applause as AHS seeks ongoing ties with northern Clermont County School.

Court hears Mt Carmel Glen Este case over flag salute

A judge in Xenia presided at the Mt Carmel Glen Este School Board case seeking reinstatement of Joe Blomer after suspension for failing to salute the American flag. Witnesses included Mrs Blomer and minister Earl Proehl. Board members testified their actions followed school regulations and would defer to the court’s ruling.

Acreage Bought by Gersenfish Near Williamsburg

Mr. Ike Gersenfish of Cincinnati has purchased a 59 percent acre tract near Williamsburg adjoining his farm. The land comes from Wesley and Fannie Gillman and was formerly the A. W. Clark farm. Don Schroeder has been farming Gersenfish's other land.

New Recording Equipment In Use At Batavia Courthouse

The Batavia courthouse installs photo graphic recording gear costing about 3500 dollars. Recorder Edgar Mosbacker says the system will speed work, reduce errors, and help catch up on past year transfers. Discharges for veterans and records for other departments may be copied at requested service. Assistants listed include Mae Ruth Mosbacker, Betty Bates, Betty Smith, and Grace Roudebush. The system aims to pay for itself through efficiency gains. Also noted are Mt. Carmel Glen Este PTA activities and a future home talent play planned for March with speaker David Attig.

Cincinnati Ladies of the 37th Division Hold Luncheon

Mrs. Katherine Kain presided over a Tuesday luncheon of the Cincinnati Chapter at the Cincinnati Club with Judge Thomas H. Morrow as guest speaker. Morrow, a World War I captain and World War II colonel, spoke as part of the Ladies of the 37th Division event. Mrs. Joseph M. Stiles, Mariemont, national president, presented the speaker.

White Funeral Homes Split Clermont County Family Business

Clermont County's T. P. White and Sons Co. splits after 75 years with Mt. Washington and New Richmond locations. John R. White of New Richmond will lead the Mt. Washington offices. Sumner Powers, Lew F. White Memorial Funeral Home head, will run headquarters in New Richmond. The split follows the death of Lew F. White and marks the reorganization of the family firm founded by Thomas Pinkham White.

Batavia High School Extends Winning Streak to 11

Batavia High School’s basketball team stretched its season win streak to 11 with a 38-37 victory over New Richmond on Friday. Star sub player Burn led the charge, while Ashburn and teammates Didday Parsons Jacobs Ankrom and Elstun contributed key scoring as Batavia also won 52-43 at New Boston on Saturday.

Griffith Heads Vets Service in Clermont County

James Griffith, World War II veteran, will head the new Clermont County Veterans Service office on the first floor of the Batavia Courthouse. He will be in the office Mondays Wednesdays Thursdays and until noon Saturdays, with Cincinnati duties on other days for training. Irwin Kain of Batavia will continue VA contact work for Clermont and surrounding areas.

Five Indicted by Clermont County Grand Jury

Clermont County Grand Jury indicted five of fifteen accused last week. Lane faces breaking and entering with $2,000 bond and a stolen Navy recon car tied to the case. Other defendants include non-support, grand larceny, and multiple driving charges. Grange officers were installed at Batavia with Haddie Hulik to lead the lecture hour.

Two Injured in Route 74 Crash Near Mt Crab

Elmer Rice age 28 of Williamsburg and John Simpson age 24 of Green bush Brown County were seriously injured when their car crashed into a tree on Route 74 near Mt Crab January 11. They were taken to Christ Hospital Cincinnati and were unconscious at admission. Rice was the driver and lost control on a curve.

Hall Escape Recaptured Near London Prison Farm

Wilbur Hall of Batavia, 23, escaped from duties at the London Prison Farm and was captured two hours later. Sentenced in 1942 for shooting to kill and entering, he now faces potential return to the Ohio Penitentiary for two more years.

Final date for reporting soil building practices to AAA

Mr. Byron Ross, chairman of the Clermont County Agricultural Conservation Association, states February 1 1947 is the final date for reporting soil building practices under the 1946 Agricultural Conservation Program. Farmers must present bills or evidence to the AAA office before the closing date.
