Train Strikes Truck Injuring Two Men at South Milford

A morning N. and W. passenger train collided with Charles Craver’s Owensville truck at South Milford on Monday at 10:80. Craver suffered a broken leg and serious injuries while Ed Ernst of Milford sustained severe wounds including a broken spine and severed foot. The beer keg load was en route to Cincinnati. Both men were rushed to Deaconess Hospital in Cincinnati in critical condition.

County Commissioners Resist Deep Cuts in 1935 Appropriations

County officials kept overall spending near 1934 levels despite dire warnings and a sharpened pruning knife. Totals show modest reductions claimed at about 7000 dollars but salaries remained largely intact, with key line items in court, general expenses, and public services adjusted only slightly.

Republicans to Meet in Clermont County at Amelia

Clermont county Republicans will meet at Amelia School Auditorium Thursday night January 17 as part of a 14 session series sponsored by the County Republican Central Committee. Cincinnati attorney Carl Rich and other speakers will attend. Supper at 7 30, reserve with Joe Brock Amelia. Last week's notice misdated Friday January 18. Supper 50 cents.

Suspect Returned in Robbery Case Ties to New Richmond AP Store

Alvin Gaskins of Madisonville was jailed on charges connected to the January 3 robbery of the New Richmond AP Store. Fred Boone of Covington, Ky., jailed with Gaskins, fights extradition as hearing before Gov. Ruby Laffoon in Frankfort, Ky., draws near. State Senator John T. Murphy to defend Boone. Prosecutor Frank A. Roberts to represent the county. Marshall Joe Colonel of New Richmond thwarted a similar break‑in last Saturday, wounding one robber who fled in a car. his weapon and pipe were dropped at the scene.

Presidential Ball planned at O N G Armory

Allan B. Nichols leads a Ba tavia county fundraiser for infantile paralysis with a statewide event at the O G Armory on Wednesday January 30. Tickets cost 150 per couple and 100 single with seventy percent local proceeds. The program features the Columbia Gas and Electric Band Cincinnati Mickey Friends orchestra the Wurlitzer Melody Kids 20 acts and a Marimba Band all evening dancing and a decorated Armory.

Tax Collection To Open Monday February Fourth

The county treasurer J. M. Fitzpatrick announced real estate tax collection will begin February 4 with sales tax stamps arriving this week and available at the treasurer’s office. Enrollments show 670 vendors licenses issued by the county auditor by noon Tuesday and January 21 set for start of collection.

Corn Hog Meetings Set Across Clermont County Next Week

A series of 17 corn hog meetings will be held in Clermont county next week. 1935 contracts will be available. Afternoon sessions start at 1 30 p m and evening sessions at 8 p m at multiple school buildings, a courthouse, churches, and grange halls from Goshen to Mt. Carmel with dates January 21 to 25.

Dr. Van Horn was re employed as Batavia township physician by the township trustees December 29 at 360 dollars a year. Only one bid was filed.

Band of Robbers Blow Felicity Bank Safe

A band blasted Citizens National Bank in Felicity early Thursday morning and looted less than $300. Five blasts rang out at 4 30 as attackers outside fired shotguns to keep residents frightened. lights and telephone lines were cut. Sheriff Auxier responded as windows shattered and interior vault damage occurred.

P A Pathe dies former Bethel mayor and shoe executive

Paul A. Pathe 50 president of the Cincinnati Shoe Company and former Bethel resident who served as mayor and school board member died Thursday at Good Samaritan hospital in Cincinnati after a brief illness. He moved to Bethel at age 11 and lived there until eight years ago leaving a widow Jennie Cook Pathe and four children. Funeral services were held Saturday at 2 pm from W Mack Johnson funeral home.

Officials Confer On New County Court House Plan

A committee of county officials and citizens met in Columbus last Friday to discuss the proposed county courthouse. They were told the project would receive immediate attention once the federal work relief program is released, though the exact timing was unclear. Work relief officials expressed optimism and pledged cooperation. Attendees included County Auditor B. L. Ketchum, County Commissioners Frank Willis and Ezra Seyler, Judge Hugh Nichols, Harold Nichols, John Hayden, John Houser, Carl Rush, Val Rule, Fred Croswell, Ralph Bee, David W. Roberts, and K. H. County Fruit Growers Meet Tuesday January 22

Cler mont County Fruit Growers Association will hold its annual meeting Tuesday January 22 at the U B Church Batavia starting 10 a m. Speakers include Dr J H Gourley of Ohio State University and Wooster Agricultural Experiment Farm and Prof Frank H Beach head of the state horticultural extension service. An apple show will be part of the session and the Church Ladies Aid will serve dinner.

Clermont County Grange Lecturer Conference Held At Home

The Clermont County Grange Lecturer's Conference met January 12 at Mrs. Herbert Rowan's home with 12 members present, the largest attendance of the year. Officers elected were Mrs. Ivah Woodmansee president Miss Sarah Pollock vice president Louise Gorman secretary treasurer. The afternoon covered program ideas and material, Pollock reporting on the State Grange meeting in Columbus. Members adjourned to meet April in New Richmond hosted by Mrs. Louise Rogers.
