Robbers entered the A. and P. store at New Richmond last week. A three man gang, two men took loot to a nearby truck amounting to $800. They were discovered during the act but had no chance to call for help.
The Farmers Institute will be held at Newtonsville Baptist Church on Friday and Saturday January 11 and 12. Prizes include ribbons for the five best ears of yellow white and mixed corn and a sweepstakes prize of a haircut by Homer Armstrong and a quilt show. Door prize 1.50 basket of groceries for arrivals before 9 30 am. Prizes from H L Losey and Robert Williams and son. Lunch served both days. "Lonely Little Eliza Lou" presented Saturday evening by the Grange at 10 and 20 cents.
Mr Carmel P. T. A. hosts a card party at the school house on January 12 at 8 PM. A door prize will be awarded and a 25 cent donation is charged at the door. Bridge 500 and Pinochle are played and lunch will be served.
About 200 milk producers met in Batavia Tuesday night to call a milk strike over low prices. A three member committee from Batavia and New Richmond prepared to meet with Cincinnati groups on January 14 to set a date for a mass meeting and a delegation to Governor Davey and the Milk Board of Control for relief.
Section 7688-1 G. C designates the Friday nearest January 16 as Temperance Day and requires at least two hours of observation. Education Director J B Skinner asks superintendents to urge teachers to conduct suitable programs this year on January 18. The County Superintendent calls for wide publicity of the observance.
County Rangers held a quarterly meeting at the Court House in Batavia. They report ongoing petty thefts of poultry across the county, noting that autos and trucks aid thieves in quick, undetected travel.
Batavia Grange installed its officers for the upcoming year last Thursday, with Deputy Wright Wolf of Bethel conducting the ceremony. A large attendance enjoyed a social hour and a nice lunch after the installation.
Fifty enthusiastic farm leaders from Clermont county attended a dinner at the U B church in Batavia where the 1985 Farm Bureau membership drive was launched. Speakers included E L Carter C P Becker Robert R Caldwell and Ray Stoddard. A second Republican township meeting will be held January 18 at the Amelia School Auditorium with Carl Rich as speaker. Reservations for supper at 50 cents are due by January 15.
Chas T Jamieson aged 81 a Wellington First National bank cashier died at home from pneumonia. Born in Batavia he was a former state bank examiner a World’s Fair foreign commissioner and C and E railroad treasurer. His wife was buried here recently and his funeral was held Sunday with burial in Batavia. P F Jamieson and son Robert attended the service.
Mrs Cloud Weston nee Carrie Beagle of San Diego California died at home last Thursday from pneumonia. She leaves husband Cloud Weston two daughters and four sons. She was daughter of Louis Beagle of Glen Este and sister of Mrs Mary Adams and Jess Beagle.
The Batavia Woman's Club met last Saturday at Miss Emma Wilke's home and elected officers for the coming year. President Miss Myrtle Wilson. 1st Vice Mrs H C Nichols. 2nd Vice Mrs Samuel Huecker. Recording Sec Mrs Ralph Kain. Corresponding Sec Miss Louise Baum. Treasurer Mrs C H Woodmansee.
East Hill Farm Woman's Club met January 8 at Mrs. Anna Maham's home with 14 members. The program included an opening ode, papers on winter health, readings by Miss E Davidson and Mrs. V Buerkle, a contest won by Mrs. E Moore, and a lunch served by the hostess. The group adjourned to meet in February with Mrs. V Buerkle.
The Red Cross reports 1985 to January 1 enrollment at 1027 members in Clermont County, an increase over last year. Contributions also exceed prior totals, with final figures forthcoming as Earl Kincaid informs.
A Thursday morning blaze in Felicity destroyed the ground floor of four businesses and damaged a second story club room and creamery station. Origin undetermined but likely from a defective flue. $25,000 loss. Fire departments, townspeople, and wells on Dr. Longworth's property aided containment after four hours amid gusting winds.
County Auditor B. L. Ketchum warns dog owners to buy 1935 dog tags before January 20 or face penalties. No extension will be granted, and the message emphasizes timely compliance for the tag requirement.
Buckeye Lodge F and A M of New Richmond will hold an inspection on Saturday night January 12. Master degree work will be presented and all Masons are invited to attend this session.
Three Clermont County residents died last week two in auto crashes and one from fire. Charles F. White 62 of New Richmond died after his car hit a truck on the A. P. Highway east of Coney Island. John Busch 74 of Mt. Carmel died after being struck in front of True's Store. Michael Retzler Jr. of Batavia drove the car. Anna Oswald 45 of New Richmond died from severe burns after her clothes ignited by coal oil on a grate. Nick Oswald attempted to smother the fire.
Mrs F A Ireton announces the marriage of her daughter Miss Alev E Ireton to Thomas W Hartley. The ceremony occurred December 26 at the Presbyterian Manse in Wilmington with Rev Cartidge officiating. The couple, Wilmington College graduates, plan Birmingham Alabama where Hartley will teach in a junior high school.
Jack Jamieson presents Here Comes Charlie a three act comedy at Batavia Town Hall on Saturday January 12 under Epworth League auspices. The romance and laughter promise a riot of fun from opening scene to finale with Batavia youths in the cast. Reserved seats available at Nash's adults 26c children 1c
On Tuesday evening January 15 the Otway Prudentials from Peebles meet the Merchants in Batavia. Peebles reports put the team undefeated this season. A preliminary game features the National Guards against Bethel CCC. Admission is 1b.

Natty Altman hosts a radio interview next Thursday night at Mt. Crab with famed pitcher Slim Sallee and a top colored quartet from Ripley. The program on W. H. B. D. runs 7 to 8 p.m. featuring spiritual, popular and southern melodies.
Batavia resident Charles Winemiller has enrolled in the winter quarter at Ohio State University. He joins a cohort of students beginning courses for the season and plans to study at the Columbus campus.
In a stormy session Monday new board member Ezra Seyler was elected president amid contention over the chair. The board moved to cut appropriations to fit a ten mill limitation, with initial estimates around 20 percent later toned down, while Tuesday saw no final reductions. The board also unanimously rescinded Mack Stafford's dog warden contract.
Clermont County tax rates prepared by Auditor B L Ketchum have been approved by the State Tax Commission. Treasurer J M Fitzpatrick sets January 23 as the tentative opening date for tax collection as township books are readied for entry. Property owners can begin payments once preparation completes.
Clermont County Grange officers hosted a Wednesday meeting in Batavia with talks on group initiation. The county splits into three groups arranging future initiations at Locust Corner Washington Felicity Batavia Monroe Owensville Goshen Clermont Miami Wayne Williamsburg Beth el Bantam Mt Carmel Marathon with Batavia Clermont and Mt Carmel leading programs.
Clermont County Grand Jury returned six indictments after a day and a half session. It examined 80 witnesses with two cases ignored. Indictments list Edward Roehms for failure to provide, Herman Morgan for burglary, Edward Brophy for fraudulent conversion, Ray Petit larceny, Joseph Schweppe for vicious destruction of property, and Walter Newell for assault and battery.
