Cooper Takes Office as Ohio Governor Promises Economy

Myers Y. Cooper of Cincinnati assumed the Ohio governorship pledging tax restraint and limited state intrusion into private business. He urged repeal of the Pence law and reform of election laws while enforcing the law and seeking only necessary legislation. He argued for economy, debt and tax reduction, and strict law enforcement to protect public funds.

State law restricts truck loads to five tons on pikes during specified periods. Sections 5246-6261 set the limit. Officers must enforce the rule and protect the pikes during the time in effect.

Flu Epidemic Hit Ohio With Broad Reach

The Ohio Department of Health bulletin estimates at least 10 percent of the population affected by influenza in six weeks with more cases likely before the epidemic ends. Most illnesses are mild and go unrecorded, while alcohol is deemed ineffective as prevention and may hinder recovery.

New Dog Warden Appointed in Jackson Township

Ora Ferree is named county dog warden by the board of county commissioners and will serve with two disinterested parties to view sheep killed by dogs and assess damages. Dog license tag sales lag behind last year with five days remaining before penalties. Funds from tags cover sheep-damage costs and the remainder aids the county school fund. Flu Ban Eased as Epidemic Relents

County Health Commissioner Dr. C. R. Colburn lifted the flu ban last Sunday midnight and left school boards to act locally. Reports show the disease declining in some areas while others still face cases and pneumonia remains the main fatal outcome.

Clemons Sentenced to Life for Milford Murder

Irvin Clemons, convicted of second degree murder in Clermont County Common Pleas Court on January 4, began serving his life sentence at the Ohio penitentiary. The case costs totaled $2000. Clemons leaves a wife and three small children who will depend on the county for support.
