A Sunday morning blaze in Batavia leveled the Hamilton Building housing lawyers offices the post office and election board. Leslie Kennedy discovered smoke and triggered alarms as Cincinnati and local fire crews battled flames for over an hour. The structure suffered heavy water and smoke damage with the election board office destroyed and many documents lost. Citizens praised visiting fire companies and the Boy Scouts for their aid and donations followed.

Summerside youth dies in truck accident
George Johnson 22 son of F. M. Johnson and wife of Summerside died in St Bernard Monday January 6 when he fell from a contractor’s truck and was crushed by the wheels. Funeral held at Summerside M E Church Saturday and burial in Batavia Union cemetery.

Forestville hosted a large gathering of Odd Fellows from the 75th district to witness the installation of newly elected Grand Lodge officers on a recent Saturday night in the consolidated school building. Former Clermonter Webb Shuff Dies at 80 in Fresno
Webb Shuff aged 80 of 522 North Street Fresno was found dead in his chair by rancher F J Webber on December 24. He had lived alone since moving from Batavia Ohio and is survived by two sons Walter and Wilbur and four grandchildren. His body was cremated after coroner’s handling.

Woman fined for whisky possession after Bourbon stash found
Carrie Powers of Chile was captured with near a gallon of Kentucky Bourbon whiskey under a bed by Sheriff Roberts. Charged with possession of whisky, she was released on bond and later fined 150 dollars plus costs by Judge Charles White. She paid the fine and drove home with her three young relatives, a riverfront local known to locals.
