Man shoots at family then surrenders to sheriff in Batavia

Ernest Alexander of Afton, intoxicated and resisting orders, fired at the family car and a second shot hit Dora Smith’s car before the family escaped. He was jailed by Sheriff Roberts and deputies A W Mein ken and W Kain about an hour later. charged with shooting to kill and bound over to the county grand jury. The report also lists Batavia civic meetings and council committee appointments.

Milford Council No 359 Jr O U A M held a December 8 open meeting with about 100 at the banquet. Speakers included RK H B Whitefoot Cincinnati Council and Chas Lackman Past State Councilor. D of A and Jr C U A M remain active in Clermont County as baskets brimmed with applications. Music by the String Band of Marysville Tennessee.

Hast Hill Farm Woman's Club Opens Year Meeting

The first Hast Hill Farm Woman's Club meeting of the year was held at Mrs. Jennie Himes home with Mrs. Ida White presiding. Programs featured American Literature by Ethel Goff and Alma Pattison on music with a piano solo by Elizabeth Buschbacker. Contests and refreshments followed the social hour. next meeting at Mrs. Goff's on Feb. 6.

Williamsburg Enlists Feisty Marshal to Enforce Law

William Faulkner, aged 60 and six foot two, appointed marshal in Williamsburg Clermont county, has quelled rough factions. After early clashes with two offenders and later two more, he arrested them with firm, brief authority. The town now reports order and Faulkner's salary is reportedly increased.

Grand Jury Drawn for January Term

The January term grand jury has been drawn but names are withheld. Sixteen jurors comprise the panel and will be summoned to Batavia around the 23rd. Ten are currently boarding with Sheriff Roberts with more likely as cooler weather comes. A shipment of six went to Columbus and Mansfield last week.

School of Instruction in Owensville February 1930

The 22nd District School of Instruction will meet in Owensville on Saturday February 1 1930. Instructions for Worthy Matrons and Officers in the morning and afternoon work by Owensville Chapter. Batavia High School to Meet Goshen in Friday Armory Games

Batavia faces Goshen High School in two Friday night games at the armory starting 7:30. Goshen, county runners up, returns nearly the same lineup for a tough matchup. Earlier, Bethel beat Batavia 40 25 in girls and 21 14 in boys, then Owensville defeated Batavia 26 16 in girls and 31 16 in boys.

County Tax Penalties For Late Personal Property Payments

Law excerpt explains extended deadlines for personal property taxes by county resolution. If first half is unpaid by extended December or January date, full current year tax plus 10 percent penalty is due and collected. If first half paid, late remaining due by extended June or July date carries 10 percent penalty.

A classmate of Miss Edith De Camp now at Missionary Training School Cincinnati gave a brief talk in Sunday school. Russell Speidel is our new Sunday school chorister. Guild holds an all day meeting on Wednesday. Circle No. 2 serves dinner to the public for 50 cents. Rev Burdsall's class led the Sunday service and Rev Tucker of Mt. Orab preached the sermon.

Olive Ruth Anstaett wed Joseph Dodds Jr at the Anstaett home in West Carrollton Ohio on Christmas Day. The ceremony featured Rev Clark A Denison and a small bridal party with music by Estella Anstaett and Lee Miller. Record Raccoon Pelt Reaches Regional Fame in Ohio

Earl Brion of Cincinnati area hunts at night with a coon dog and takes a large treeing raccoon in southern Ohio. The animal measured 42 inches and is the largest pelts seen in the region. Raccoon pelts fetch good prices and coon dogs prove profitable. The carcass provides quality eating when properly prepared.
