Poet's Meeting Displays Local Talent and Verse

The Presbyterian church at New Richmond hosted a Poet's Union gathering with readings by Wil liam T. Tatman and Mrs Lon Medaris Ely among others. Miss Gladys Donovan offered a burlesque on Launcelot and Elaine, music by Mrs Margaret McClure Stitt and Audry Gillaspie, and a closing program by Miss O Neil and Miss Luntanner. New members were welcomed and refreshments served. Batavia Woman's Club meets January 25 with talks on authors and taste.

Farmers Independent Institute at Newtonsville Ohio

The Farmers Independent Institute will be held at Newtonsville Baptist Church in Newtonsville Ohio on February 7 and 8 1930. The program lists sessions morning and evening with talks by Mr Dobbins County Agent Wilson and Mrs Milner, music by Goshen Glee Club and a play cast from Newtonsville Grange among others.

Clermont County Board of Education reorganizes and acts

The Clermont County Board of Education met January 18 with J. C. Scott elected president and W. H. Gaskins vice president. The board set monthly meetings at 9 30 a m and approved a 1930 1989 appropriation and 2.66 mills distribution. It decided against a County Institute and announced the discontinuation of the Assistant County Superintendent position upon term expiration.

I F Walker of West Batavia died Saturday night at Good Samaritan Hospital Cincinnati after observation before leg amputation. He was son of W Rufus and Carrie Walker husband of Florence Brown Walker father of James and Donald. He lived in Batavia area, farmed nearby and was active in the M E Church. Funeral at home Tuesday afternoon with burial in Union Cemetery.

Batavia Scores Fall Short at Williamsburg

Batavia High School traveled to Williamsburg for senior basketball double bill. In girls action Williamsburg led 20 to 2 at halftime and won 33 to 21 as Batavia rallied briefly. In the boys game Williamsburg led 16 to 6 at halftime and 24 to 12 final, Batavia scoring only two field goals in the second half amid limited Armory access.

Fractured skull fatality after New Richmond duel

Sim Young and William Jones, both of New Richmond, fought Friday night. Jones knocked Young down causing a fractured skull. Young died Tuesday morning. Jones, jailed for drunkenness and disorderly conduct, was later re arrested. Coroner Curliss called. grand jury to convene Thursday.

County Officials Discuss Spring Road Building Plans

County commissioners trustees and clerks from townships meet to plan early spring road work. County will cooperate with townships to improve roads aided by gas tax funds. The county surveyor must approve material before payment and progress depends on weather.
