Miss Virginia Brown, 71, of Monterey, was found dead last Wednesday evening by neighbors who grew concerned and investigated. A former Cincinnati clerk, she was the last of her family, survived by nieces and nephews including Guy Williams of Goshen. Funeral held at Monterey Presbyterian Church with burial at Goshen.
Town officials under new leadership conduct Monday night business with Mayor Ross Feelding. Meeting schedule shifts to first Tuesday monthly. Marshal Henderson pay to be decided at February session. The Cler mont County Board of Education meeting is rescheduled to January 17. A nonpartisan school funding bill Senate 202 and House 615 seeks to ease school finances by raising revenue via a state tax rather than local taxes. Citizens Bank Felicity directors elected for 1920 include Kennedy Woodmansee McMurehy Miller Bartlow McCullough Rice.
Milford girls edge Batavia 18 to 16 as Miss Lewis scores all Milford points. Batavia boys prevail 28 to 17 on strong passing from the Batavia players. Milford fans chant come again.
A Dayton corporation picked up the traction line effort after Cincinnati business interests failed to respond to a key feeder. locals rose to the occasion and would likely support reopening the route to new territory. Father J. T. Anthony blasted the Cincinnati Chamber of Commerce, urging action to save travel and trade.
Kyle Moyer of Clermont Auto Sales Co. in Batavia suffered severe facial burns when a Hot Blast stove exploded after oil was applied and a match was lit. He escaped with a narrow but serious injury to the face, and no fire was expected in the stove at the time.
Fred Smith of the Batavia Foundry suffered a badly mashed finger last Friday while aiding with heavy castings. He will be off duty for several days. State liability fund insurance will partially reimburse him.

A state nurse will survey Bethel and Loveland schools with a Red Cross nurse planned for service in nearby communities. The County Normal School closes January 30 with two graduates ready to teach. The Batavia Woman's Club gathered at Mrs. J. J. Werner home with strong attendance. Elections named E. R. Justice as president, W. C. Bishop as first vice, E. R. Bush as second vice, L. L. Johnson as recording secretary, J. J. Werner as corresponding secretary, and J. M. Wiseman as treasurer.
The Clermont Publishing Company held a Saturday meeting and elected W. C. Bishop as president and L. C. Dietz as vice president with Dr. G S VanHorn as secretary treasurer. Batavia school board organized with A Heinrici as president and C B Slade as clerk. Andy Burnet janitor receives ten dollar monthly raise. Township education board to meet February first for organization. Board seeks $2000 transfer from contingent to tuition fund due to lack of teacher pay. Batavia Light & Power Co reports funds sufficient for six percent dividend. Officers elected include P F Jamieson president J J Werner secretary W H Baum treasurer and others. Township trustees elect Lou Buerkle president and Frank Stagg clerk. Roads and ditches maintained under supervision.
On January 28 the State Highway Department will let contracts over the State totaling 6 266 miles in Adams county with an estimate of 125 100. By awarding the contract on this date preliminaries will be completed by spring and work will start early. When will some of Clermonts contracte be awarded.
Ohio voters show Harding with a large 102,373 Senate margin in 1914 versus Cox and Pomerene for the Democrats. Cox wins 1918 statewide by 11,944 while GOP lieutenant governor gains 80,100, sparking debate over urban wet versus dry Republican support and Pomerene’s strength versus Cox.
Clermont county commissioners applied to the State Highway department for six trucks to be used in a spring road construction campaign. Several sections are prepared for estimates and contractors will be notified. State funds are reportedly available and the roads are described as badly needed. Citizens are urged to support the project.
On January 5 the county board met with full attendance and approved a large list of expenses including Applegate 1160 and Batavia Realty rent. They also authorized six three ton tracks for highway use and granted franchises for electric lines in Williamsville and Hartwell areas. State road aid resolutions cover multiple townships and corridors.
The County Health Board met in W. C. Bishop’s office to file the 1920 budget with the county auditor. The new board, elected by mayors and township chairmen, can hire a district health commissioner and staff. Budget totals 4,500 with 3,000 to the county physician and 1,500 for nurses, contingents, and supplies. Further information to follow next week.
The Clermont County Loose Leaf Tobacco Warehouse held its first sale today with a crowded floor and many buyers present. Over 200000 pounds were on the ground as 32 large loads arrived on Monday, with crops asked to wait until next week. The event is viewed as a strong townwide business prospect and producers praise the fair treatment.
Enumerators are busy and progressing well in villages and rural districts. In cities the language barrier with foreign residents complicates interviews due to a lack of interpreters. Respondents seem ready with questions and answers to speed the process and minimize delays.
Harry Adolph Thomas Richard Eugene Bullock, from Salmon Idaho, has the longest name of any boy who served in the recent war and is noted in records. The community meeting in Owensville Thursday January 15 at 7 45 PM at the school house will feature mostly musical numbers plus readings and an address on China by Rev F F Edwards. Stockholders met on Saturday and elected H. Bissants as president P. M. Rapp as vice president Bert Lytle as secretary C. K. Anstaett as treasurer and John Brown and A. J. Paul as directors. The firm reports producing a fine grade of butter with strong demand.
Game wardens visited Batavia and seized a ferret from a local farmer. In Adams county a hunter was arrested for using a ferret to catch rab bites. A $60 fine was imposed and the offender jailed for nonpayment. Lincoln and four presidents cited as favored sons.
