Airman Rescues Wreck Victims Amid Holiday Home Visit

Airman 3 James Baker, back from Wright Patterson, freed wires, fought a rear wagon fire, and rendered aid to Helton after a crash. Bethel Fire Department and Police Chief Roe responded. Kennedy ambulance took Helton to Brown County Hospital where he recovered, as did others in the Bethel area.

Emergency Runs Show Necessity For More Men

At the first 1961 meeting the North Union Volunteer Fire Department reported 97 runs from March 20 to December 31 by the combined Williamsville and North Union units. The breakdown showed 44 by Withamsville and 53 by North Union. The summary noted 223 emergency life squad calls not included in the five runs, with 105 by Withamsville and 118 by North Union Life Squad, highlighting the need to recruit daytime volunteers willing to train in first aid at the BMOP fire house in Hamlet under J Noble of the Cincinnati Life Squad.

Historical Art Contest Open To County Students

The Clermont County Historical Society invites all county schools to enter drawings for grades seven through ten. Each contestant may submit one original drawing on preassigned subjects. entries close February 1. Twelve winning works will form a historical calendar. an art show will follow in 1961. Harsha Seeks District Study of Unemployment

Harsha Jr joins with the Scioto County Labor’s Depressed Area Committee in petitioning Senator Douglas for an investigation of unemployment and the economic situation in the Sixth District. Survey To Determine City Phone Service For Amelia

A survey of Amelia exchange area telephone customers will determine preference for extended area service over local service. The Ohio Public Utilities Commission approved the survey, which includes a mail ballot after customer calls. If 60 percent choose extended area service, rural service may be phased out. total investment is about 115000 dollars with May 1962 directory alignment.

Erhardt Named Director at Amelia State Bank

Amelia attorney Joan Erhardt of State Route 132 was elected director at the Amelia State Bank annual meeting. Re elected officers were John Pommert president Keith Williams vice president William Pomert secretary Herbert Jeffries cashier and director Delbert Wilson Edgar Bach also named director. The bank reported more than a 10 percent increase in deposits since moving to new quarters in August. Erhardt, a 1952 UC Law graduate, is an assistant to the Ohio Attorney General and solicitor for the Village of Amelia. He also practiced in Batavia and was an early Ohio Kennedy supporter and alt delegate to the Democratic National Convention. He is a World War II Army infantry veteran, married with three children.

Troop 369 Elects New Officers in Amelia

Humane Society protests firing of Clermont dog warden

A four member Clermont County Humane Society committee protested the firing of Elzie Flora as dog warden during a county commission meeting. The group argued Flora’s work was satisfactory and urged reinstatement, or else a plan to appoint him poundkeeper. Commissioners suggested a deputy registrar for door to door license sales and potential part time poundkeeper duties for Flora.

Sunday editor's father dies after illness

John Otis Dudley former Jamieson Machine Tool Co. and Lewis Motor Co. Batavia, died Tuesday at Wright Nursing Home Mason. Services were held Friday January 6 at Moore funeral home with interment in Mt. Moriah Cemetery. He is survived by two sons Roger C. Woman's Car Stolen From Williamsburg Church Recovered

Mrs. Willard H. McCrary of Rt. 1 Williamsburg reported her auto stolen while she attended Church of the Nazarene. Deputy Sheriff George Gardner recovered the car near Bethel Monday night.

Roe Earns Permanent Post as Bethel Police Chief

At the January 9 meeting Mayor W. Francis Smith announced Harley H. Roe's permanent appointment as Bethel chief of police. Smith and solicitor Clyde E. Mattox praised Roe for efficient, courteous service while acting chief. Roe’s yearend report shows fines and costs 2388.95, meter collections 2189.73, total 4908.70, with 811 traffic actions and 1102 total arrests and reports.

Judge Sents Ison to 110 Years in Bribery Case

Hamilton County Common Pleas Judge Louis J. Schneider on the Clermont bench sentenced former Commissioner Don Ison to 110 years on each of three bribery counts, to run concurrently. Ison, convicted December 7, faced a stay request. bond set at 3000 dollars. An appeal hinges on the separate trial motion heard next.
