County commissioners plan a Friday session to align departmental requests with an anticipated income of 880000 dollars. Auditor J F Paschal notes 217875 must be shared to balance the budget as the panel weighs unpaid bills and cuts amid a tight funding outlook.
MT WASHINGTON Sha Sturgeon will be installed as honored queen of Job's Daughters Bethel No 27 at the semi annual installation at 8 p.m. Saturday Jan 7 at University YMCA. Dun and Bradstreet official J Louie Coker reports 1961 business counts in Clermont County rose to 900 manufacturers wholesalers and retailers from 834 in 1960 an increase of 7.9 percent. He notes national figures target about three million firms and that service and professional businesses may push totals higher. Milford 191 up from 155 Batavia 146 up from 143 and Bethel 82 up from 78 are cited as examples of local gains.
Keen competition for a 15 member Loveland charter study commission to be elected February 8. Loveland, Clermont County's first city, forms the basis for a government plan and will craft a new charter.
Patricia Ann Eads, 10, daughter of Robert and Catherine Mills Eads of 4337 Beechmont Dr, died from injuries after an auto crash near her home. Funeral services were held January 4 at Moore funeral home Newtown with interment in Mt Moriah Cemetery. She is survived by two brothers, John and David. The driver, her uncle Pfe Isaac Mills, 20, reported the accelerator stuck. he suffered a leg fracture. Also injured were the girl's mother and Marie Weaver, all treated by local life squads.
Mrs. Shirley Moore, 26, of 339 E Plane St is hospitalized in Georgetown with serious injuries after her car crashed into a bridge abutment on Route 125 west of Hamersville last Thursday. She was thrown from the vehicle and suffered a skull fracture head cuts hip injury and internal wounds.
Williamsburg sixth district Masonic Officers Association to hold January meeting at the Masonic Lodge. Fred W Kragler says a Masonic blood bank will be organized and all Masons and families invited to attend. Refreshments will be served.
Aaron Lane Turner of Goshen has won The Courier Mert Clermont County First Baby Contest becoming the 14th winner in the annual event. He was born January 1 at Our Lady of Mercy Hospital weighing 10 pounds 21 inches long. Contender Gregory Charles Thomas born January 1 at Bethesda Hospital weighs 7 pounds 2 ounces and is 21 inches long. gifts from local merchants accompany the title and a letter of introduction may be picked up at The Courier office.
The 1956 Williamsburg High School graduate Dean Laura E. Rosnagale stands beside her likeness while Ralph C. Bursick WUG vice president and dean of University administration accepts the portrait from Miss Matthis. The portrait will hang in Logan Hall UC residence for nursing and health students.
Clermont County commissioners announce a plan to handle items one by one for quicker action. The board will visit the County Home monthly, sometimes dining with residents to review diet. Monday and Friday meetings will focus on pressing business with field inspections on other days.
Judge Allen C. Roudebush a Batavia resident and Clermont County pioneer died in his sleep around Dec 29. He served as Norwood mayor 1934 42 and Hamilton County Common Pleas Judge 1937 38. Active in Democratic politics and pastor elder of Presbyterian Church. Survived by wife two daughters and brother. Services held Dec 31 at Batavia Presbyterian Church with Moore funeral home in charge. Also jewelry theft reported Carl’s House of Time Main St Batavia shown broken front window and $85 jewelry missing.
William H Harsha Jr the new Sixth District congressman was elected secretary of the Ohio Republican delegation to the 87th Congress He was named Jan 2 at the delegation organizational meeting The Ohio GOP delegation with 16 members is the second largest in the new Congress He announced he will open offices in Batavia and Portsmouth to serve district residents with staff to be named in February
Judge Harry Britton ruled Dr. Robert R. Freund not guilty in a case alleging illegal abortion leading to Beatrice Vrentas’s death. The verdict cited reasonable doubt and stated no intent to procure a miscarriage with the patient’s life at risk.
Fire broke out in Murphy's Super Market Batavia twice in the early hours with an overheated furnace causing extensive damage. Patrolman Willard Vance alerted the fire department at 12 30 a.m. with flames reigniting later in the second story. Estimated losses ranged from 2000 to 3500 dollars. A US Navy aviation technician Wendell M. Cowdrey of Batavia serves aboard USS Bennington in the Western Pacific.
Republican Zenas Anstaett was elected chairman of the Board of Commissioners as the GOP regains control with Charles Hook taking office. Charles F. Clark had chaired five years. Remaining staff include Betty Lindsey clerk, Maxine Eveland assistant, Myrtle Green courthouse operator, and Dulcie Stevenson tuberculosis nurse.
