The Tax Committee ends peaceful measures and begins suits against 80 delinquents to recover 461.55. Court costs estimated at 10 to 15 per case. The drive covers one township at a time with full cleanup expected by January end. The report notes 94.3 percent collection already achieved.
Batavia Parent Teacher Association members and friends will hear Judge Orville Halbish of Clermont county probate court and Miss Lillian Damm, welfare association director, speak on their roles as public officials. The 2:30 p.m. Thursday meeting in the school auditorium is led by Mrs. William Moore.
The Batavia Garden Club will meet on Monday January 17 with hostess Mrs H F Buerkle. Program includes Garden Errors to Avoid This Year Native Shrubs for Natural Effects and a discussion led by Mrs Robert Wall with a Special Feature followed by a Winter Bouquet arrangement.
The Clermont County Schoolmasters' Club met in Owensville last Thursday. Stonelick Consolidated School home economics prepared a commendable dinner. Paul Miranda, Moscow superintendent, opened a discussion on education topics including state tests, objective setting, social dancing, superintendent qualifications, and criteria for graduation for underperforming pupils.
Batavia Woman's Club announces a community party at the High School Auditorium on Friday January 21 at 8 o clock. Proceeds fund open meeting talent and future events. Tables offer games like bridge and monopoly with door and table prizes. Refreshments and a delicatessen table available. Tickets are 25 cents to club members selling them. all Batavia men and women invited for a sociable evening.
District Deputy Grand Master Ed Brunk of Spencer Lodge led the installation with many visitors and members in attendance. Refreshments followed the evening’s business. Installations are scheduled at Flag Springs, Newtown Clermont 49, Milford Mistletoe 97, New Richmond Mt. Carmel 190, Mt. Carmel Angola 231, William burg Milton 99, and Amelia on specified January dates.

Burton Hodges and deputy Beatrice Garner say 1987 was the busiest year for the County Recorder. The office collected 1985 to 1987 totals of 8292.79. 4057.60. 4615.61 dollars, with 157 more deeds and 162 more mortgages in 1937 than the prior year. Expenses for 1987 were 4350 dollars, surplus 265.61, and Garner received a raise for the coming year.

Betty Raye, three year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Raymond Ross, is recovering well at Good Samaritan Hospital after pneumonia. Doctors report she may be well enough to return home by week’s end if there are no complications.
Miss Rose George and Augustus Wolf, as Andrew Wolf estate administrators, donate a Hammond Model B electric organ worth 1400 to Batavia M E Church in memory of their late brother. A five member committee will select the instrument, visit Baldwin showrooms, and arrange installation after shipment, with ceremonies planned.
Hannah, Clerk of Courts, notes about a twenty percent increase in bills of sale filed in his office from 1936 to 1937. In 1936, 6,627 bills were filed, rising to 8,006 in 1937.
Bill Brossart resumes duties in the county court house this week to oversee filing of applications with the Ohio State Employment Service. He collaborates with Earle Kincaid, new WPA Certifying Agent, to update Employment Service registration cards. Interested applicants may visit the Board of Elections basement room between 8 A M and 4 P M on Friday January 14.
Mrs. Anna Kain aged 70 wife of W E Kain died at home Friday at 11 m after a long illness. She leaves two children Irvin and Mrs Arthur Q Connor and a granddaughter. Funeral Monday at 2 30 from Wm Moore Funeral Home with interment in Union Cemetery. Attendees included relatives from Dayton Springfield Wilmington Carthage Cincinnati and New Richmond.
Clermont Aerie of the Fraternal Order of Eagles organized Sunday January 9 with 56 members, 42 present. Norwood Aerie No. 449 instituted the Aerie. Officers for the coming year include Geo. W. Gregg as Past President and H. K. Hillin as Worthy President. Next meeting set for January 12 at 7:30 PM in Batavia Armory.
Clermont County Jersey breeders met in the Courthouse Annex Batavia with Paul Jackson and Eldon Groves as guest speakers. They discussed organizing a local Ohio Jersey Cattle Association unit and planned a Jersey Banquet for March 14 1938 inviting all county Jersey owners and 4 H Day Calf Club members as honorary guests.
John J. Hayden reports M DeSalvo Construction Co is the low bidder for the New Richmond street project in Columbus. DeSalvo previously built Milford street. The contract likely to be awarded soon. Committees named for arrangements entertainment decorating publicity and treasurer John Friend named county treasurer and Jean Moyer secretary.

The Batavia boys led 21-14 at half but New Richmond surged ahead with late shots, forcing a 33-33 tie and a 37-36 overtime setback for Batavia. Cheerleaders Pullen Kain Keller energized the crowd between quarters. Batavia hosts Felicity next Friday.
The Clermont Publishing Co held its annual meeting at the Courier building last Saturday and elected Dr. P. M. Offlutt as president Geo W Giege as vice president J W Walker as secretary treasurer. The old board of directors was re elected and a 4 percent dividend was declared.
