Clermont County Chickens Thieves Nabbed by Sheriff Crosswell
Sheriff Fred Crosswell Deputy Robert Roberts and W. E. Kain captured five colored men last week for chicken thefts across Clermont county. Three admitted stealing chickens across Highland Warren counties. Suspects moved from Cincinnati to Hillsboro Batavia and Greenfield jails after arrests. Thieves used track and autos in the heists.

Marion ex-service man arrested in Batavia for embezzlement
M W Ellis alias Major Ellis from Marion Indiana was arrested in Batavia after a brief stay. Chief Lindermuth warned Marshal Krantz to detain him on an embezzlement charge. Pulley, a plain clothes officer, brought him back to face the charge. Ellis drove a Ford coupe and claims innocence.

Sunday Wreck Near Batavia Involves Sardinia Men
Four young men from Sardinia returning from Cincinnati were in a Sunday morning crash near Batavia when a dark pedestal near the Masonic lodge caused the left front wheel to crush and the steering gear to fail. Driver Louis Schweickart admitted his lights were dim. The wrecked car was taken to Georgetown for repairs. The letter calls for separate nighttime pedestal lines and better street lighting to prevent future accidents.

Batavia residents urge a return of the evening mail after long deprivation. Congressman C. C. Kearns reports he has taken up the issue with the Post Office Department and awaits their report. He believes better service is warranted. The county seat currently gets one Cincinnati mail daily via two railroads and a bus line, within 25 miles of Cincinnati.

The Williamsburg American Legion post earned the Charles Kearns Membership Cup and the Clermont Sun Cup for 1927 with 45 members and 160 percent over last year’s membership. Harold D. Nichols presented the cups at Batavia, where council officers for 1927 were elected. An On to Paris club formed to spur attendance at the next National Convention, and an educational drive on flag respect was referred to the County Ameri canism Committee. The Legion Auxiliary also formed its County Council with officers named.

The U B church in Batavia is taking final shape after months of construction. Brickwork, lighting, and heating are installed and finishing coats go on. The basement will host Sunday school, followed by the auditorium. The church is expected to house a strong local congregation and is praised as the finest in southern Ohio.

Badly Burned Mechanic In Radiator Accident
John Plemmons, a mechanic at H R Ayers Garage, was badly burned last Friday when he opened a hot radiator cap. The ice in the radiator boiled and the cap shot up his sleeve burning his arm and face. He was taken to Dr. Ashburn for treatment.
