Tax Abatement Policy Proposals Prompt County Debate
The six member tax abatement board will have two appointees from each commissioner. Croswell plans to appoint by January 8. John Hauck released a rough draft to expand on January 11. The policy assigns real estate tax abatement decisions to elected county commissioners within Community Investment Areas and requires input from auditors, treasurers, and local authorities. Property owners must be notified and their use of exemptions considered, while officials stressed judicious use and involvement with local entities.
