Batavia School eighth graders raised funds through a bake sale for Clermont County special classes for the mentally challenged. Class treasurer Bari Holman presented a $50 check to administrator Mrs. Agnélla DeFelice, witnessed by officers Sally Blocher Nancy Lang and David Smith.
Grant Owings Clermont County's first administrator will speak at the Clermont County League of Women Voters meeting January 16 at 8 p.m. in Batavia Public Library. He will discuss how to make Clermont County Government more effective. The Ohio Legislature last session allowed county commissioners to hire county administrators.
Kermit Smith, chairman, announces each committee: Executive and budget with James E. Miller chair, John S. Moore, Charles Hook. Zoning and land development with Peter Hecktor chair, Richard Bee, Arthur Blake. Public works and capital improvements with Zenas Anstaett chair, Peter Hecktor, Eugene Vanlandingham. Public welfare legislative and industrial development with Robert F. Tilley chair, Raymond Snider, Arthur Blake. The commission met in a special session to begin clearing the backlog of work.
Doris Hayes, 16 months, died in a Loveland Park house fire at 1058 Willow Dr. The Hayes family of eight escaped. the mother was away visiting a neighbor and the father was at work. Darlene 11 led Deborah 5 Wayne 4 Peggy 3 and Cherry 2 to the porch before others fled.
The Williamsburg College Loan Funds launches its annual drive with two Saturday night games at the high school gym. Women teachers face senior girls in the first, while the men faculty play Burg Boosters Club in the second. The fund aids students with college costs and aims for a $2500 goal, after $2285 raised last year and $1172 earned toward this year’s target.
State Auditor James A. Rhodes issued the final distribution of motor vehicle license funds for 1962 totaling 82,913,712. Clermont County received 23,933.56. county roads share 1,774,723.50 to counties and 985,957.50 to township roads statewide. The 1962 total exceeds 1961 by 17,244,907, driven by a legislative shift diverting license tag money from the Highway Safety Department to local governments.
Doris was inside a burning house but was driven back by smoke and flames. Ralph 13, the oldest boy, was outside and attempted to rescue the baby and then pulled his mother away from the danger, preventing her entry.

The Miami Radio Co. was hired to adjust police car radios to new county channels. A budget ordinance and tax levies were adopted and the village consented to snow plowing and ice control on state highways.
Kenneth Anstaett of An staett Farm Service was elected president of the Batavia Business Men's Association. Richard Porter of City Loan named secretary and R L Wall of Wall Realty chosen treasurer. Louis Moore and Charles Miller elected directors. Anstaett succeeds William Stratman, Porter succeeds James Wilson, Wall succeeds Russell Martin.
The Miami Township Zoning Commission rejects a plan to strip zone along Route 131 in Day Heights from Cromley Drive to Sugarcamp Road. Arguments cited include existing business frontage and sufficient land, with trustees to decide next steps at a future meeting.
A Jackson Ohio man died and three were injured in a head on crash about five miles from Milford on State Route 131 near Deerfield Road. Clarence F. Cook, 53, of Jackson, died. Harold Sparks of Fayetteville was critically injured. David Jones and Glen Beaumont of Jackson were injured, with Beaumont later released. Sparks drove a west bound car. Beaumont’s car crossed center line triggering the collision. The Ohio State Patrol investigated. Beaumont cited for driving left of center.
The Mt Carmel Williamsville American Legion Post 72 Color Guard participated in dedicating the Mt Carmel branch of the Clermont County Public Library on Sunday January 6. The group includes active members James Bennett commander Westie Kasten Orval Whitaker Norman Nedmin and others.
