Subdivision rules adopted in Clermont County reforms

Clermont County commissioners adopted immediate effective uniform subdivision regulations after an open hearing. The move, praised as a great stride, aims to address road, street, curb and drainage issues in new subdivisions. Planning Commission redrafts and amendments will address prosecutor Hill’s language suggestions.

County Budget Tops $2 Million With New Funds

The county approves a $2,201,499 budget, up $216,832, with four new funds: Historical Society 500, Civil Defense 1500, aid for disabled 5000, and retarded children 5000. Departments’ 1960 allocations show variances from 1959 and requested amounts across Auditor Treasurer Prosecutor Planning Commission Common Pleas Juvenile and Probate Clerk of Courts Coroner County Courts.

The Clermont County Historical Society will celebrate its first anniversary at the Courier Building Batavia on January 14 at 7 30 p m with officer elections and a talk by O H Sharp on church history in four villages and Bethel The group notes the coming Civil War centennial and the county role from U S Grant to the Underground Railroad J Richard Lawwill of the Anthony Wayne Parkway Board proposes collaboration The December meeting attracted a large crowd and featured Miami Valley frontier highlights. The annual budget shows general fund appropriation rising to 825 404 from 678 872 last year.

Batavia Building and Loan announces leadership changes

John B. Rapp of Keen Coal and Supply was elected president succeeding the late Judge Charles G. White. Karl S. South of Nash Pharmacy was named a director. Other officers include Hugh C. Nichols director and Robert R. Griffin secretary, with Homer C. Wilson treasurer and George W. Cregg and Henry T. Stewart as vice presidents and directors. Mrs. Jean Larfleur remains assistant secretary and office manager.

Special Election Jan 16 To Decide Disposal Plant

Williamsburg voters will cast ballots January 16 at Williams High School for a $550000 sewerage system and disposal plant. Polls open 6 30 a m to 6 30 p m. The village council approved the project in September.

Six Area Men Join Community Chest Budget Group

Sixty area volunteers are on the Community Chest budget committee from Greater Cincinnati. They allocate nearly $4,983,393 for 122 Chest agencies to cover 1960 operating expenses. About $856,337 is already set aside for 1960 Red Cross services with the remainder to UA trustees for reserves accounting and campaign costs.

At Batavia board of education meeting Charles Tilbury was re elected president. The session included routine reports and outlines of upcoming district priorities.

Evans Promoted to Supervisor at Cincinnati & Suburban Bell

Robert E. Evans of 4474 Dogwood Drive Batavia was named supervisor in the plant department of Cincinnati & Suburban Bell Telephone. Evans, son of Joseph W. Evans Clermont Northeastern schools head, began as an installer repairman three years ago and now attends Evening College UC pursuing a BS in Commerce with wife Ruth and son Steve.

Clark Re-elected and Republican Party Moves

Charles F. Clark will continue as chairman of the board of county commissioners after a Monday meeting where Don Ison and Zenas Anstaett supported his re-election. Ison said Clark had promised to nominate him earlier, but Clark cited a prior year. Colonel of New Richmond resigned as chairman of the county Democratic central and executive committees, with William Henderson of Glen Este succeeding. The Republican nominating committee led by George Sidwell of Milford will soon send a list of county candidate names to the GOP executive and central committees.

Seipelt Named To Clermont Commission

Harold Seipelt a Williamsburg realtor and president of the Williamsburg Community Council was named to the Clermont Economic and Industrial Development Commission. He was one of two Williamsburg men recommended to county commissioners for appointment to the new panel.

Mrs Hancock Becomes Caseworker in Aged Aid Office

Mrs Lois Hancock of Williamsburg former clerk to county commissioners on January 4 became a caseworker under Sam Ausman in the county Aid for the Aged office at Batavia. Her Civil Service application was approved last week. She is an officer in the Williamsburg Community Council, a group of service and social clubs in the area.

Railroads Pay $38,713 In 1958 Tax to Clermont County

P L Keehler chairman of the Railroad Community Committee of Greater Cincinnati says Clermont County received 38713 in railroad property taxes for 1958. The total includes 28918 for public schools and reflects a decade of growth while state revenue freight ten miles and passenger miles fall.

New Air Reserve Unit Is Organized

The Batavia area forms Flight G of the 9527th Air Reserve Squadron with Lt. Col. V A Evers announcing the unit.
