Court rulings settle county commissioner race recount
The contest case from the November election ended in the Common Pleas court after a partial recount. P. C. Moorehead challenged C. Whitmer and C. P. Donley, with 29 witnesses examined and 18 precincts recounted, yielding a 37 vote gain for Moorehead but the judge denied a full county recount. Donley and Whitmer were declared the elected candidates. court costs reached about $400.

Not Guilty Verdict in Ohio Case Against Harry Hill
In Probate Court, Friday, the State of Ohio acquitted Harry Hill, father of Earl Hill, on a charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Geo Lucas, a prohibition officer, testified there was conflict over a moonshine raid at the Hill home and the younger Hill fired at Lucas during the confrontation. The jury of 12 deliberated about twenty minutes before returning a not guilty verdict.

Batavia honors longtime resident James Marquis Lyle
James Marquis Lyle, one of Batavia’s oldest citizens, died New Year’s Day. He was the last of nine children, survived by a daughter and widow, and spent about 67 years in the same house. A Civil War veteran, he worked as a plasterer. Funeral services were Sunday at 2 p.m. from his residence, with burial in Union Cemetery.

False Alarm at Owensville Bank Stirs Town
In Owensville last Thursday a power outage lit the bank window with decorations by Will Snider assistant cashier. Two suspicious men surveyed the town, but no robbery occurred and the power failure remained unexplained. The next morning cashier John L. Marsh recounted a dream of gunfire and dead men along his route.

Two Men Sentenced for Operating a Still
Newton Upton and Lon Forkner pleaded guilty to manufacturing distilled liquor in a Cuba area home after a raid by Sheriff Kirk and officers. Forkner admitted making the liquor and operating the still found December 10. Upton, claiming innocence, admitted guilt after court explanation and was sentenced to the Ohio penitentiary for not less than one year nor more than five, plus a $500 fine. A second indictment against Upton for possessing property designed for liquor manufacture was noted. Mrs. Upton and Mrs. Forkner were freed after their husbands pled and were not charged in that count.

Foot Amputation After Farm Hunting Accident Near Winchester
Ora Walker, 21, was accidentally shot in the ankle when his own gun discharged while he and his brother tried to retrieve a rabbit from brush on Tom Roush’s farm two miles north of Winchester. His foot was amputated at Bethesda Hospital in Cincinnati after transfer by five o'clock train. he is reported doing as well as could be expected.

Milk Producers Loss At Hamilton County Experiment Farm
W. E. Weaver reports from the Hamilton County Experiment Farm Mt Healthy that high seed prices render milk production unprofitable. In 1924 the dairy produced 66,261 pounds of milk with 3,313 pounds of butter fat from a herd of 13 cows 14 heifers and 2 bulls. Feed grown on site valued at 1,273 with total feed cost per 100 pounds of milk at 1.907 and 38 cents per pound of butter fat. Research continues with crop rotation and ongoing experiments awaiting final conclusions.
