Willis Again Is Appointed Commissioner

Willis of Monroe Township was appointed to fill the vacancy on the county board of commissioners for a two year term after Elmer D. Binning’s untimely death. The three lawfully named officials met to appoint him, using one ballot this time, and Willis soon left for Columbus to receive his official commission from the secretary of state. He did not participate in meetings Monday due to his absence.

Confession Ties Family to Chicken Theft Case

Harley Vance aged 48 and his son Louis 22 of 5878 Hillside Avenue Taylor Park were jailed in Batavia on charges of stealing five chickens from Charles Halbisch and Elizabeth Goodwin of Perintown five weeks earlier. They confessed at a Saturday hearing before Mayor J M Wise man and were bound over to the grand jury with Harley remanded on 1500 dollars bond and Louis on 1000 dollars. Sheriff Auxier made the arrests.
